Important Changes to the Sid's Raceway Operation
Due to an number of factors, including a poor response to our call for committee members, there is a very real chance that there will be changes to the Sid's Race Raceway operation next season.
The options that are being considered at present: 1. Completely close the facility. 2. Practice / bashing venue only. No trophy or club races. The track layout would be made less challenging (wider lanes, smaller jumps) to make it more appealing to casual users (vs hardcore racers). Maintenance would be on some form of co-op basis, ie free use of the track in exchange for maintenance labour. 3. Above scenario + club racing. Co-op track maintenance, with club races run by committee members. We would need firm commitments from three individuals willing to join the track committee in order to carry out this scenario. 4. Business as usual. New race-level track layout for 2010 season. Track layout and maintenance and regular club races run by committee members. Potential for Trophy Races if justified by the level of participation in club racing. We would need firm commitments from seven individuals willing to join the track committee in order to carry out this scenario. Committee members enjoy unlimited practice and racing all season at no charge. Individuals interested in joining the committee please respond via PM no later than November 30th. |

A reminder that submissions from prospective committee members need to be received by Nov 30th.
As of today we do not have enough committee members to commit to options 3 or 4. The track is in very real danger of being closed due to lack of volunteers/interest. |

It's too bad there isn't more interest in 1/10 racing anymore. The Sid's guys over the past few years have put alot of time and effort into this track and have done a great job at trying to bring back 1/10th racing to the area, some how I feel there just isn't enough interest, it's too bad really

re sids raceway
sids used to be the place to race 1/10 electric. when i first got into rc racing i really enjoyed racing at sids. there trophy races were well organized and you would have a big turnout of racers.
last season it seemed that hardly anyone knew when sids was having their trophy races due to lack of promotion online, this site in particular. i know sids has a website but since the majority of racers are members on this site it only seemed logical to be promoting your races on here with as much notice as possible of an upcoming race , not putting a post 4 days before the race. you wouldnt even hear about a race until the week before while other tracks were putting the word out on offroadrc a month before the race. imo this is the main reason for the drop in attendance at sids plus the creation of the outback track at fastcats .

Unfortunately the attendance at the Outback is about the same as Sid's. They stopped scheduling races because no one was coming out, 1/10th offroad dirt racing in this area is dead
With growth of 1/8th electric, perhaps this could breathe some new life into the track

I think 1/10 scale racing is kinda on its way out, the most popular 1/10 scale car would have to be the RC10 B4 and how old is it 6 years? 1/8 scale cars are new ever year or two it seems.
Losi comes out with a new model evey month it seems like and how old is the xxx4-G five or six years. Losi and Associated seem to run the racing world over here (North America) and the newest 1/10 scale racer they have come out with is the B44 great car but just a mild redesign of an older (BJ4). And with the battery, motor and speed controler technology it is way to easy to over power 1/10 scale cars, but not 1/8 scale the cars are so much heavier and so planted when driving. I think if Sids is going to survive it needs to focus more on 1/8 scale both electric and gas. I know there is no gas allowed there but i would try to give it a go just have strict times on when you can run the gas? I was there the first day Sids open used my truck to pack down the first bit of dirt put down on the track. I had alot of fun there and met alot of great people and it was not just 09, 08 had bad attendance as well (2 bad summers weather). I will always love 2wd 1/10 dirt but i think its done up here anyway 1/8 scale is the way to go for an outside track, now if someone was to take a chance and build an indoor track well that might help the 1/10 dirt cars. But i think 1/8 will still be more popular. Just my 2 cents. Have a happy hollidays every one. |

re offroad 1/10 electric racing
im sure the majority of guys who race 1/10 electrics at fastcats also run 1/8 nitro during the summer months so that is the reason why 1/10 offroad dirt races have such low attendence figures during the summer months. with 1/8 nitro you have the glorcs series, pro series and also club racing at several tracks. doesnt leave much room for us guys who run 1/8 nitro to race 1/10 electrics also.
anyone who goes to fastcats during the winter season will agree that there is plenty of interest in 1/10 electric. and we all know the primary reason is because there isnt anywhere in ontario run 1/8 nitro unless you want to travel to the usa, which has many 1/8 indoor nitro tracks. other than tillsonburg we dont have anywhere to race 1/8 nitro in ontario. i agree that if there was an indoor dirt offroad track somewhere in ontario that alot of guys who race nitro in the summer would be there racing all winter for sure. its too bad we didnt have an indoor dirt offroad track to race both 1/8 and 1/10 electrics. if there was one i think it would generate alot of interest. what it comes down to is that 1/10 electric offroad racing is thriving at fastcats and the main reason is because we have nowhere else to run during the winter months.

there does seem to be a cycle as to whats popular and it seems on this website it has swung to 1/8 and there are a lot of 1/8 scale fans on this site.
after all this site WAS created by a group of 1/8 scale guys. 1/10 scale is in need of an update by the manufacturers and they will because it is cheaper and more entry level. if the dont they will be cutting their throats as there wont be the newbs to step up to 1/8 as they gain experience. 1/8 is getting more user friendly with elect kits now but there is a substansial increase in costs... just look at the price of 4 tires. not that they are cheap for 1/10 but it IS less and they dont eat a set per race day. I have xxx4, xxxt and a brushless Revo Platinum and i love them all. You can however keep all the nitro stuff i just dont want to spend the time cleaning, tuning, cleaning, fiddling, cleaning best thing i ever did was rip the engine out of the revo and go BL I hope Sids can survive. any loss is tragic and even our little track in Orangeville is growing over from lack of use. Somehow it seems everyone seems to think stuff should be FREE yet somehow it needs to be maintained and fixed and somehow funds and volunteers should magically appear to take care of this stuff..... |

If you care and you're willing to get involved, now is the critical time to step up. Otherwise, after tomorrow, all bets are off as to the future of the track. Narly1 |
