Preparing for Rd 1 at Average Joe's
Hey Racers,
The Average Joe's Race is coming up quickly, and I wanted to get a few FYI's out before we get too close. Some things to keep in mind, and maybe some things to pack with you. This may be a little long, but it's important. Please add anything that I may have forgotten. -Being on the lake can be weird when it comes to temps. The direction of the winds will change in moments. If the wind is coming from the land, it will be warm. If it's coming off the lake, it will be cold. Be prepared for both. Bring clothes for both extremes. -Camping is available on site, but there is no power, water, or sewage services provided for camping. We ask that you respect our requests to NOT connect any available power to your campers or trailers. Anyone suspected of breaking this rule will be disconnected without notice and well as all power to that area shut down. This is one of those 'one bad apple will ruin the whole bunch' situations. I ask that you police each other to avoid a concern. -Camping/Pit Space. Camping and pit space is on a first come first serve basis. I ask that no one not helping with the track build arrives before Friday Morning. I also ask that when you choose your pit space, please keep in mind that we are sharing the parking lot with the paintball field, so we need to keep in rows, and keep in tight. Back your trailers and campers close, and keep available space for any emergency vehicles to pull all the way into the track. Also, the grass area just off the service road is not our property. I cannot tell you that it's ok to park there, but I'm also not going to tell you that you cannot park there. Understand that if you were to park there, it's at your own risk, I do not have any responsibility over that area, and if asked, you may have to move. -Available Power. There is power on site, but please understand that there are limits to the amp's provided. The service we have is suitable for our club level racing, but largely increased numbers of a provincial event takes it's toll. Please keep this in mind if you require power. Play it safe and pack a generator to ensure your needs are met. -Marshall Safety and Responsibility. Marshall safety is a major concern for me. I have heard stories of accidents happening, and I do not want anyone to get hurt at my facility. It's important that you know your abilities, and stay within them. If you do not feel you are fit for the task of marshall, please make arrangements for another to marshall in your place, and make the race director aware. As always, 'heads up' marshalling will be in effect. By that, I mean that as a marshall, you are to be more concerned about your own safety then flipping over a kit. And of course, the racers will understand and accept this with understanding and appreciation for the marshals safety no matter if it's a qualifier, or the A-Main. -Personal safety at the event. This is an offroad dirt facility, and being that, you enter the race understanding the possible risks. There are ruts, rocks, drainage trenches, and many other things to trip on, fly off the track, or roll an ankle. Please always keep your wits about you and protect yourself. -Protective Gear. Closed toed shoes are an absolute requirement. Gloves, safety glasses, hat, sunscreen, pants and long sleeve shirts are recommended, but not required. Take care of yourself. It only takes a second to get a nasty burn, or for a rock to come up off a tire. Be safe. -Water. It's easy to tell when you are hungry, but dehydration can sneak up on you quickly. There will be cold water available for purchase, but I suggest you bring a couple cases to make sure you have an ample supply. Pop and juices are good for taste, but do not give you much in the way of water. So be prepared. -Food. I will have the BBQ hot all weekend to cook up our burgers, hot dogs, and sausages, but you are also welcome to bring your own BBQ's and cooking supplies to the facility. There is also a Subway, Tim Horton's, and Bar/Restaurant on site. Keep yourself well feed and have a great time. -Pets. Average Joe's is a 'Friendly Pet Friendly' facility. By that, I mean that pets are allowed as long as they are non-aggresive towards people, other animals, and R/C's. I also ask that they are able to be quiet at night while people are relaxing and sleeping, and that you always clean up after them. Animals are to be leashed at all times. -Prohibited Substances. Average Joe's is a family facility that focuses on safety and a positive environment for children. Saying that, drugs are strictly prohibited, and alcohol is restricted to your private campers, trailers, and tents, and only after the track has been closed for the day. Please be aware that the police often use our parking lot as a place to park and complete paperwork. You can almost guarantee their presence. Any drug use will result in being removed from the premises and the event. -Spectators. Being so close to the highway, there will be a lot of people stopping by to see what the event is about. Because we are all looking to improve the numbers in our hobby, it's important that we put the best foot forward. -Hobby Shop and product sales. We have a hobby shop on site, so I ask that there are no new product sales on the premise for any product that I offer. If you are a vendor, and would like to offer your product at the event, please contact me PRIOR to the event to make an arrangement. The hobby shop is what pays my mortgage, I ask you to respect this. I often have to escort people off the premises for trying to sell things under my nose, this event will not be any different. -Lake. We have a private beach and lake Ontario. Use this at your own risk. We will not have any life guard or safety equipment available. It's also Lake Ontario, it's safe, but it's not the cleanest. -Paintball Field. We share land with a paintball field. The refs on the paintball field will make the players aware of the R/C event, and to keep their shots away from our direction, but there are no guarantee's that the odd paintball will not find it's way to the track. By the time they make it to us, they will not have enough velocity to cause any damage, but don't be surprised if you see the odd ball come over to the track of parking lot. |
