We are beating a dead horse now because we don't want this and you did it anyway.

Funny you should mention prohibition. I read a interesting article in the Legion mag I receive (yes I'm a Vet) on prohibition in Canada. I tried to find a online copy of it for you but couldn't, if you go to your local legion they usually have copies there. The jest of the article is during WW1 a bunch of narrow-minded, do-gooders took advantage of the war while 450,000 men were overseas by passing legislation banning alcohol in every prov. When the vets returned from overseas they formed a organization which was later to become the Legion and had prohibition repealed. This was led by Lieutenant Colonel Hebert Molson. This is a line from a WW1 song:

"We're the boys to stop the bullets with the Molson's on our chest"

Re: Mandatory Gas Engine Electronic Kill Switch

Breaking news: A club in Canada has the wisdom and fortitude to made Throttle Failsafes mandatory on all powered aircraft above 20 oz as of April 1, 2010.

I promised that the name of the club that did this would not be put on RCC because of the Trolls.

What is a throttle failsafe, MIke? Is it simply programming the already built in failsafe in pretty much every radio sold in the past 10+ years?

I would think that most of us already do that on larger planes.

20 ounces isnt even a pound and a half. If they are mandating some sort of additional failsafe that works without the radio - then I would like to know about it and how it will pertain to glow and other engines such as diesels.

Give up the troll thing Mike, you are just making things silly now.

You started this promoting the use of a stand alone, engine shut off that doesnt require your radio to operate - and want that mandatory for all "gasoline engines". Why are you then proudly proclaiming "wisdom and fortitude" when all they are mandating is the use of radio failsafe - something we all should be using anyhow? And that is nothing like what you have proposed?

Or can you/do you know the difference?

And I am still waiting for the reference to the BMFA mandating the "The Brits are taking a different approach and asking that clubs ensure fail safe devices that are INDEPENDENT of the radio be used on ALL aircraft." to quote you again.

Or are you just going to conveniantly forget about it? Huh?

I am not going away without a clear answer to my question, Mike. You posted the statement, you can either retract it or prove me wrong.

I dislike false information with a passion, just ask your buddy volksman.

Re: Mandatory Gas Engine Electronic Kill Switch

Throttle Fail safes are not the same as fiber optic kill switches. Half the clubs around here you must have your fail safe set to reduce you power to idle.

Its funny how after all of this Mike is proclaiming victory because one club is doing something that everyone else does and doesn't relate to the original question.

Yes but havnt I said that aboiut 7 times already ?? Kevin I think we are both banging our heads against a wall.

Mike - you got yourself into a corner. You can now nicely back down, rethink this and come back with a solid, and practical recommendation or you can carry on with your fingers in your ears making up stuff as you go along.

Do you even fly "gas engines" or use an optical kill switch? WHat about your radio failsafe - do you diligently program each of your models to shut down or at least go to idle? Just wondering...
