Aluminium covering
I would like to know some different ways on how you guys use alum. to cover epoxy or polyester finish. I have been looking at my clunk while making turbines for it and thought why not do a scale finish instead of paint. Any ideas would be welcome
John

flite metal
After painting a few models in silver or aluminum I wanted to try something more realistic. This winter I built a sport P47 from the TF kit and used Flite Metal for the first time. Bit of a learning curve, but like anything else, it's not too bad once you get the hang of it.

Thanks for the replys on the subject. I am going to try something different on a panel and see how it works. I covered the bottom of the extension tip for converting from Mk4 to Mk5 with a mixture of Weldbond about 2 parts glue and 1 part water then layed out alum. foil shiny side in. I rubbed out and stretched it real good and and will wait a few days before checking. They say 24/72 hrs. but since time is not a problem I will give it quite a bit more. If it works I will let everybody know and also if it doesn't. With the weldbond they say in the brochure it is fuel resistant so it might be okay anyways.

The waterproof feature of Titebond II, probably the same as Weldbond, was used by thinning and coating the inside of our S.Reaper with it to fuelproof the wood. We DID have a major leak (OK a line came loose ) and it just wiped dry with NO leaking- so SHOULD work fine for your application.

Bart,
Thanks for the info I am trying this method on a few parts, like hatches and the extensions and then the tail. I know when getting to the wing and fuze it could be fun because of the large area but what the heck it is worth the effort. Weldbond when it drys is crystal clear and it is good for a bunch of different materials including glass. The biggest problem is drying in the centre of the parts. But that will be time. I am also going to do the engine bays and down the tubes to the rear of the nacelles with a thinned out mix. That should help since inside is balsa. John
