RC Engine test stand

While I was visiting mtnflyer a few weeks ago I noticed his Tatone Engine stand.

He was kind enough to lend it to me so I could attemp to fabricate one of my own.. The following pictures is what I built out of scrap at the shop.

(BTW... Im not a metal worker, just a truck driver and It took all of 3 hrs to cut, drill and weld it all together)

Re: RC Engine test stand

Good job.

Glad to see that the engine support blocks on yours are taller than the Tatone. You have lots of width BUT always check to see that the crankcase clears the bottom of the test stand BEFORE you tighten up the bolts.

My Tatone has that particular on larger engines. The stand is wide enough but not deep enough for larger engines.

I made it a bit taller and the slide a bit longer in case I get into a bit bigger motors in the future

Re: RC Engine test stand

All test stands like that have a single pin on each side to go in one of the bolt holes, other wise the engine will squirt out the front running, not good !!!

Re: RC Engine test stand

I had to beef up a test stand I made for a weedie conversion engine I was testing yesterday. Repeated throttling fatigued the 1/8" steel plate, and it almost came off while swinging an 18" prop. When I noticed it leaning forward when pouring on the coal, it was about 2 more rev ups short of breaking free. I thought for a while about how that might have went.
