Re: My first turbine plane!
Hi Dennis,
Just thought I would drop a work of encouragement in here as well. Welcome aboard! 1st thing though, a comment on your test bench setup... I notice the fuel filter installation after your pump looks like it used the supplied 4mm polyurethane hose press fitted into tygon. That will not last long, and will one day become a fire hose of kerosene on your bench or in your jet... That's 'OK' on the suction side of the pump, but still not ideal by any means. The pressure side is a definite no-no... The other thing I wanted to say is in relation to the F-16 as a starter jet. I'm going to politely disagree with my friends here about it not being a suitable starter. There probably are better models out there in the non-scale class of kits, but I remember the DF days when the old Byron F-16 was the definitive standard as a starter jet... Just be careful of yaw authority when the nose is high on approach. Many will tell you that the best kit to start with is an AV8R, Boomerang, Reaction, etc. My opinion is that these kits are over promoted, and simply offset the learning curve of handling a swept and slippery highly wing loaded jet... The only thing a new jet guy will really learn from that variant of trainer is throttle lag, but worst case it may understate the challenges of jet modelling due to the relative ease of the flight envelope. Short story, I think you'll do just fine on an F-16 with due care and attention, and you're already interfacing with a number of the right guys in the country. Regardless of the plane, there's one consistent lesson I've learned over the years. That is, under no circumstances should you ever rush any facet of jet modelling. Take it slow and methodical, and you'll be successful. Missing a day of flying is tremendously aggravating some times, but worth it in the end if it avoids rushing something that will add unnecessary risk. Best of luck, we're all here to help! Kelly

Re: My first turbine plane!
Hi Kelly and thanks for the welcome.
You are correct about the pressure side tygon, as I found out! I have since eliminated tygon on the pressure side. I also agree about your plane selection, It took me a bit to get the landings down (too nose heavy) but otherwise it is a great aircraft. I enjoy the look, sound and smoothness of the F-16 it really is an impressive plane. If not for the help of Len Gladstone, John Wiebe and the Altona group I am sure my transition to turbines would not have been so smooth and uneventfull. Many thanks to them and and all who have welcomed me to this great side of the hobbie. Dennis.
