as a newcomer to this RC sport....why is it that from what i see all the rc races are simply run against the clock?

you all have transponders, so why can't you just race against each other for 20 laps or whatever and whoever crosses the line first is the Winner?
Main starts could be based on the qualifiers? same as they do in stock car racing.

You qualify against the clock but you race against others in the mains.

so are you saying in the mains, its just like any other race (and NOT against the clock)?
I would really like to understand this before I give it a try, to have some fun.

In the mains it is a limed race, but you are racing the other people. Example: 20 minute race and whoever has the most laps wins.
