Generator for field charging.. What are you guys using???

What are your setups for charging lipo packs right at the field using a generator???

I have a 1200s Junsi power supply with icharger 306b 1000W charger

I was hoping to use these and continue to parallel charge my 6s lipo packs at the convenience of my tail gate right at the flying field...

I am curious to hear the options and reviews of guys doing this already..

Are you guys using the generator to keep the deep cycles topped up or are you plugging your power supply direct into gen set??

Thanks
Dan

Re: Generator for field charging.. What are you guys using???

Do you have to use the inverted version when plugging power supply direct??
I like the Honda 2000 but they surely are not cheap

I use 2 hp server psu's converted to give me 1200watts @ 24v when i charge my 26s 5000 packs at 2.5c i pull 4.0 amps from the wall, and when plugged into the Honda E1000 it maxes out at 8amp at the 110V outlet. So i could doubble it or add 2 more batteries if i wanted to

I don't rush my self for charging at the field, because it gives others chance to fly.

I think its more like 25.2voltsx5amps=126wattsx2.5c=315watts x 2 batteries=630watts..630watts/120volts=5.25amps coming from the wall

Is the biggest difference between a regular genny and an inverter, just the sound??
Or are we really worried about our power supplies, chargers, and lipos on a regular genny??

Re: Generator for field charging.. What are you guys using???

The generator without the inverter has to run a at 3600 rpm in order to get the required 60 cycle.110 volts. This is why it's noisy, because of the high rpm. The inverter can get the same output at a fast idle. The more load you put on it, the engine RPM will rise.

I use a Honda e1000 and charge 6s's all day on a tank. Costco had a 2000 watt small champion generator for 549$ they are pretty decent too!
