Curtis Youngblood MantaRay Prototype 1230mm Variable Pitch Quadrotor

You'll need a whole new gimbal design flying like that!

The Stingray has already had people modding it to nitro.

Re: Fuel powered - MantaRay Prototype 1230mm Variable Pitch Quad

I'm surprised that if they are going to the effort of having variable pitch that they haven't tried full cyclic control on all four rotors with an advanced flight controller.

You would need a pretty fancy flight controller to do it but being able to vector thrust like that would allow some interesting maneuvers.

Not that it couldn't be done, but it would be a linkage nightmare to do so.

Wouldn't be that much worse just three little servos on each head doing ccpm.

Lot of servos, lot of synchronizing to make them all equal.

The 'clean' of electric power is certainly alluring! Returning to the world of RC , decades later, I'm an E-power convert.

I found the Youtube comments about "high energy density of liquid fuel" and "... flying electric in freezing weather ... rain ..." interesting. I don't have specific numbers but I would think that fuel powered models will scale up whereas electric power, though greatly improved, still has limitations.

Re: Fuel powered - MantaRay Prototype 1230mm Variable Pitch Quad

This would be interesting for 5 minutes tops, even the electric version is a 5 minute tent in the pants. I know CY seems to believe this is the future, I think it is EPIC fail. That is all....
