This rear fuse half has a ton of stresses on it. The pod/nacelles mount ontop, the wings on the bottom with a 2" diameter wing tube and the stab on the bottom.

The wingtube is really well reinforced . However to be safe I layed up 2 layers of 6oz cloth on the fuse in key areas to stiffen the fuse and reinforce the fuse-hardpoints of the pod and stabs. Pretty confident it will all be integrated with CF once cured tomorrow

Re: Skymaster A10 / Twin Cheetahs

With he fuse reinforced, tomorrow I will start into the pod which has received some attention lately. The formers are not keyed in a couple critical areas and the glasswork is pretty thin. I will reinforce all joints and will beef up the glass in a number of areas to make this bullet proof. With 64lbs of thrust and a fair chunk of weight that will see some serious G-forces, this isn't the place to skimp IMHO

Re: Skymaster A10 / Twin Cheetahs

This morning I got the center of the pod reinforced. I first laid down some CF Tow (12k) along all the Hysol joints and then put down the 6oz cloth and overlapped it on the formers (overtop of the tow).

Both ends of the pod were also reinforced at the CF dowel pins and rear mounting block

Tonight I'll do some trimming around those access holes for the kero lines / wires

Re: Skymaster A10 / Twin Cheetahs

The first step on the inside of the pods was to layup some triangular reinforcement pads that overlap onto the formers and bridge the Hysol joints. Tonight I'll layup some CF cloth overtop and flip it over and work on the top of the pod.

Re: Skymaster A10 / Twin Cheetahs

Mike sorry for the late reply. The gear is taken apart and glass beaded , after it is masked so the paint does not go anywhere where there are moving parts or joints . I use an etching primer first and right after it flashes off i paint it with a tinted primer. After I dries , I can put my decals on and hit it with shiny or matte clear . I hope this helps .

Re: Skymaster A10 / Twin Cheetahs

I got all the fuse and pod reinforcement completed tonight!!!

Here are a few final shots of the pod strengthening. About 3oz of CF / West System was used where the formers intersect... This whole area is like steel now

In addition, all glue joints were lapped with strips of CF so every wood/glass joint is reinforced

Re: Skymaster A10 / Twin Cheetahs

Next, I got into the tail

A few things I want to do here...

1) Replace the plastic arms for metal
2) strengthen the mounts for the servos
3) Strengthen the mounts of the vert stabs to horizontal stab

Boy O Boy.... That is one MASSIVE tail section

Re: Skymaster A10 / Twin Cheetahs

Great work here Trevor. The detail on this A-10 is impressive.

My pic I posted earlier is that of a 188th Razorback in Fort Smith Arkansas. Early next year they are loosing their A-10 mission to preds or reapers and the A-10s will be sent to Arizona to fry in the desert sun.
