300x Servos

I've had my 300x out twice now. I didn't expect it to be a high quality unit for $249 but I did expect it would fly more than one pack without a servo biting the dust.

The first pack I flew, the tail servo seized and I landed pretty hard as I fumbled with that problem as a new pilot. I checked the servos for operation after that hard landing and all we're functioning (except the tail servo of course) and were smooth so I replaced the tail servo. Yesterday I took it out and flew, or shall I say hovered for one pack, and all seemed fine. I was playing with different expo settings on the radio so landed and took off several times. On the second pack I had it in the air, about 20 feet up, tail in, when the elevator servo (I guessed) twitched and the heli jumped back then stabilized. A second later it did it again, so I started to land, and it pitched rearward again. It did this a couple more times as I was trying to land and of course in my excitement I landed kind of hard again. Found stripped servos on aileron and pitch. The elevator servo seems okay which is weird.

I'm going to look for some better servos and see if I have some sort of vibe problem that is messing with the beastx. This heli is a pretty cheap factory built unit as I said earlier.

On a positive note, after the messing with the 300x I brought out my Trex 550e which I recently built as my first kit, and hovered a pack with it. It was smooth as silk, stable, and much more relaxing to hover for a new pilot like me.

At least with the 300x I am learning how to repair.

Re: 300x Servos

I went through the identical scene last year with mine, lost the rudder servo first. The servo was replaced then during the next flight the heli pitched up and right hard. I replaced all of the servos with Savox. If you have the same experience as I did, you will then end up replacing the ESC and motor. Shortly after the FBL controller will fail. All this happened in about 40 flights. HH did supply replacement parts. The heli has been pretty trouble free since.

Re: 300x Servos

Yes, the Beastx quit. It started out with a mild tail wag which no matter what I did wouldn't stop. The wag eventually got so bad that the heli was unflyable. I sent the controller in to HH, they tested it, sent me a new one and no more problems since.

Re: 300x Servos

It's a little frustrating having parts fail when you never caused them too.

One thing that is good as mention, Horizon is AMAZING with customer support, call them up at any time you have any issues like that and they'll send you replacements free of charge

Re: 300x Servos

I never thought of calling them as I just assumed you were on your own with these things once you walked out of the store. I'll give them a call.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Ya man, call the horizon toll-free number. They'll hook you up for sure.

When my blade 120 sr fell out of the sky when I did nothing but just hovering it when the tail motor just quit out. They sent me a ton of crap like new body, blades, and tail after they broke, and even went further to send me a brand new $65 main board when I never even asked for it, the guy said he thought it might be faulty so was gonna send one anyways, was VERY impressed .

When my 450 3d elevator servo crapped out after about 100 flights, they still replaced it. And in another incident when I broke a piece on the tail of the 450(the tail slider I think it was), they used CRAZY loctite on these helis and sometimes you just can't remove things. No matter how much heat you apply to the screws, they STILL strip. I had NO problem replacing the piece I broke after the crash, but I couldn't get anything apart on the tail. I called horizon and they simply shipped me all the new parts, and all the bearings and just told me to basically cut the tail shaft off to remove the whole tail and they sent me a complete rebuild .
