Question for you a couple of pages back...how did you know the size and shape to make the formers prior to cutting the nose off? Was it on some plans or something? I'm new to building so I apologize if it's obvious

Eric... the formers came precut in the routered plywood sheets. So the basic shape was there. Took at fair bit of shaping/sanding to get them tapered and fitting right, but I was glad I didn't have to start from scratch with cardboard templates!!

A contour gauge will also work in many situations.

Speaking of energy, if you haven't seen this video it highlights the dangers of carrier operations- I think everybody was OK.

Hoping that tonight I'll be able to finish the install of the cylinders and would like to move onto the retractable tail hook

Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's

Woohoo! Finished up the cylinder install on all the doors tonight.

Just nose cone bolt tomorrow and my CF18 fuse is complete.

I'll then get Peter's CF-18 finished over the Christmas break (finish gear doors, cylinder installs, removable nose cone, front tray)

In the New Year I'll get into the wing builds.

Great progress Trev, you'll have these in paint before the snow melts!

Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's

Ya.. studied the wings/aileron/flap construction last night.. should go pretty quick.

Then glassing. Really dreading the finishing and tightening up all the gaps and contouring the gear doors.
