Re: Issue landing my 40% Sbach

I know it is going to sound stupid but it is fine in the wind ( last Friday was about 30km winds). Later that day I did find myself putting too much input when the winds had calmed down in the eve ( too much expo), more like the day I found the problems I had landing her.
Mostly I am thinking it is too tail heavy and thus very sensitive at low airspeeds, but I will keep it that way for hucking.

Thanks for the ideas!!

Fancy radios make it easier to fly stuff that's a hand full or to make things smooth. A little power on before the flair will also fix the situation but it will be a tail up main gear touch down. Throttle is go elevator brake . That's the way it used to be .

Absolutely Robert. Seems it is so rare to fly without even a breeze that not having one created an unusual event for me. Maybe thats my excuse to fly during the evening, you know - for practice.

Re: Issue landing my 40% Sbach

I have no personal experience with Sbach aircraft, but a friend of mine has similar problems with a 72" electric powered Pilot Sbach. The previous suggestions in this thread are all worth considering, however, I'm wondering if the issue is inherent to the airframe's wing/stab geometry? My friend found that if he lets the speed bleed off during approach to flare, the model will suddenly drop from the sky, tail first. His solution was to simply maintain a bit of power (and airspeed) to touch down. Unfortunately then you run the risk of touching with flying speed and ballooning back into the air. Interesting

Re: Issue landing my 40% Sbach

We have 4 Pilot 30% (or is that 27%) SBach's around here, and all drop their tail on the approach, but further out than you are talking about... kinda scary at first, but once you get used to it they land nice (I heard that Mike...comments about my landings not required) LOLOL

much like my avatar....they assume that attitude quite far out on final

Re: Issue landing my 40% Sbach

I have the pilot 50 cc size with a da 50. Great flying airframe but super light compared to my Carden. I find the Sbach just loves to float in....and your absolutely correct the tail wheel likes to land first most of the time... My cg is right on the money on my 45 degree up invert. Could be just the nature of the beast.... But sure is easy to grease the landings when thing go right lol

I do the same thing with my Edge 540 and made it super easy to land

Re: Issue landing my 40% Sbach

I have been looking at buying the Pilot Rc SBACH as well and one of the things i came across in my research is that the H stab on earlier versions are not airfoiled. So at low airspeed / near stall moments, like on final, the tail will drop. Residual thrust that hasn't bled off yet then causes the ballooning.

I think a little down thrust on the motor would work. Maybe balancing slightly more nose heavy may also help. I know i hate to lose my neutral inverted flight as well but if you can't manage the landings like this then you have little choice.

Hope i have helped.
