You might want to read this thread about micro BL motors too. Lots of test data:

You could slap a huge prop on a small motor and it could creat 500 watts if you want, but it will burn out after the first flight! How many watts are generated is governed by the prop you use. Try a few different props and pick the one that generates close to 35 watts.

Martin, I think all of us here are saying do not create a lead sled by overpowering your plane with large setup. At these small weights that you are dealing with, it is easy to wreck your little foamy's flight characteristics very quickly with too much weight.

In my opinion you don't need a full 100watts setup. Strive for as light as possible and move the battery all the way forward to balance if at all possible!

I also feel that the 25g or more motors are too large for this build. I would use 10-15 g at the most, 20g if I had too!

I use 25 g motors in my 5-6 oz indoor foamies.....

Re: Need help picking a brushless combo for indoor

The motor I'm looking at is the turnigy 2222 2850kv with a 500mah turnigy 2 cell 20c battery. This should balance it out and bring the plane in at around100g. Will this work out for me? If it flies any where close to the larger version Infineon I'll be happy. The Infineon is a great flying airplane.

Re: Need help picking a brushless combo for indoor

Hi Martin, I think that motor will work, however, now I think that Lipo is very large. That is a bigger Lipo than I use in my 5.5 ounce 36" wingspan foamy!!! I only use 2S 360 in my bigger foamies...

I know you need the weight in the nose, but I'm afraid that at 100grams or more that that beautiful Infineon you worked so hard to build will be very fast.

Also consider using the HK 2.5 gram servos: These!

Compare similar wingspan models at HobbyKing, coming in at half the weight, like 50-60 grams! I've read reports of these models being very "speedy" at 60 grams or more! And the E-Flite UM 4-Site is 16" wingspan at 35 grams....

The C2222 motor is junk. I would not recommend this motor to anyone! I have a similar version... 2300KV though:

1) The bell is out of round and the motor vibrates at WOT. I pulled the rotor and noted score marks on a couple of the magnets... not good.

2) The chamfer on the prop saver is useless at holding a prop on straight. I ended up chucking mine in a drill to machine a flatter profile.

Heck, you can have my motor if you want it!

Re: Need help picking a brushless combo for indoor

If you want such a heavy motor (15-17g), then I would recommend the:

HXM1811-2000:
(Note: AUW is closer to 15g once you add the mount and prop adapter.)

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=5358

Or the Infinite A1705-1800 from OKHobby (17g). It's a bit overkill though as this motor is good for 50+watts on 3S.

http://okhobby.com/product.php?id_product=760

I have used both of these motors and although I prefer the Infinite A1705, they are great little motors for 4-8oz foamies.

Re: Need help picking a brushless combo for indoor

I have the 1811 on 22in 120gram(AUW) biplane using a 7.4v 180mah 15C battery and it will almost hover. With a 20C battery it might hover, but still won't do 3D. With the 16gram 2211 it's 128grams(AUW) and does 3D.

I forgot about the 2211... she spins a big prop so it would be great for thrust needed for 3D. It's also part of the HXM/HXT series: 1400, 1811, 2211 and the 2730 Blue Wonder.

Here is some prop data:

Re: Need help picking a brushless combo for indoor

Thanks guys,

Now I have a ton of motors to go through, I'll probably pick the wrong one, but as they say, live and learn. That's the only way I know how. This has been a great learning tool, I think I'm actually starting to understand some of this stuff. Thanks Again and Happy Flying.
