Come on guys, allthough I understand your point (really) it isnt fair to these BUSINESSES... yes, these are companies that are in the hobby to make a dollar! Who do you direct most of your advertising to? WHO BUYS THE MOST!! If 90% of what I am selling is to people that pay and understand US dollars, that only makes sense to also advertise in US dollars.

I sell a lot of stuff on ebay - I use the US dollars not Canadian. WHy? BEcuase for every 100 items I sell, 99 go to the US or abroad (who also pay in US money) and 1 stays here in Canada.

Its BUSINESS sense, not anything to do with politics or getting "sucked" into the States...

Anything hobby related that I do is from the US, I think of the cost of everything in US, and I sell most of my stuff to people in the US.

When most of the business is US it makes sense to deal in US funds. I go to US sites to check prices because I just dont have a gut feel for how much something costs when I see the price in CND. When something is in US I know in an instant how well it is priced.

Just to add something, when I sell something here on RCC, I use Canadian dollars. Why? Becuase 99% of the RCC users are, guess what... CANADIAN!

But, when I list something up on RC Universe for sale, I use US $$'s as most of the registered users are in the US and know what a US $$ is...

Andrew

Fair enough, If I was to post on an American board it only makes sense to ask american greenbacks, but when posted on a canadian board Canadian dollars should be asked for. Besides I believe in supporting my local dealer, If he cannot supply me with my item then I move farther out to the city (toronto shops), I mail order to east coast or west coast if needed. I only order from the states if what I need is extreme. My OWN OPINION ONLY!
Dave,
If we don't support our local shops they will not be there when we need them. But I do Like the Canadian Distributers to advert in Canadian Dollars

I'm not knocking the US currency figures. I have no problems with the dealers advertising in US dollars, so long as they advertise in Canadian dollars as well. It's not hard to do, as I've already stated. The fact they choose not to, is what gets my goat.

Then they are forced to have some sort of update daily to reflect currency exhange changes, seems like a lot of work when the purchaser can just go to

www.xe.com/ucc

and do it in 10 seconds themselves.

Another thing I don't get. Why should the price fluctuate at all? Does the prices of any other product change on a daily practice on the shelves of the stores we visit? Most of those items are stocked from the US and other countries as well. I don't see my pay check changing from week to week because of the US exchange rate!

If you advertise in either CND or US you are going to fix the pricing in either currency.....ie: This engine is 100 CND....now how do you price it in US to accurately reflect the CND pricing? One day its going to be worth 65 US, another 64 and another 66.

You just cant put on a website this is $100 CND and $65 US because it doesnt work out, some days it will be better to pay in US currency and some days in CND currency.

The fluctuations are not going to be much, probably less than a dollar on a weekly basis, but they will be there.

I always add 50% to the US price and that usually is close enough for a quick estimate.

Agree with Fodder, that's the way I usually do it!

But I feel that if a Canadian Business (believe it was mentioned earlier) wants to advertise in US Currency ....... They should take Canadian at Par!!
