Rene Fonck Spad VII

Hi All,

I am almost ready to repaint a .25 powered WW1 scale combat Spad VII for this upcoming season.
I have a basic 1917 four colour scheme from the time Rene Foncke flew them but I have not been able to find actual documentation of a plane that he flew. He joined 'Les Cigognes' (the stork emblem) in April 1917.

I'm up against alot of nice Fokker D-7s , Dr-1s and Albatrosses.

Rene Fonck had 75 victories next to Baron Von Richtoven's 80.

The thing I like about Rene is that he probably got 120 but claimed 145 !

Our first contest was fun last Sept.
We have three more this year.
Oh yeah, and Rene survived the War...hehehe

Any help in helping me find a colour scheme would be much appreciated.
There must be one out there but I can't find it...
Thanks,

Take care,
Have fun,

You like the fact that Rene' came in second only to Von Richtoven by dishonestly claiming kills that he didn't actually get? Hmmmmm!!!

"Oh yeah, and Rene survived the War...hehehe "

Maybe he just claimed he survived the war!

Nice plane though! You've just got to love the style of almost all of the WWI era flying machines! My favourite is still the SE5A. Seriously thinking of picking up the Balsa USA 1/4 scale kit when in Toledo this year!

Anyone familiar with this kit and what engine is recommended or used by people who have built/flown this airplane?

Hi Gary,
From what I have read Rene Fonck got 75 confirmed victories. With his unconfirmed victories Fonck's real score was 'likely' 120. Alot of them were deep behind enemy lines...Somewhere I read he claimed 145....

We are flying 42in. span biplane/36in span triplanes for combat. We get points for takoffs/landings and for keeping/cutting streamers. About 10 of us so far are building and 'developing' a set of 'official' rules.

Check out the Combat Forum under 'Bloody April' and other posts for some pictures of some of the planes...

There are ALOT of really interesting WW1 subjects. The bright colurful schemes of the German planes are the most popular so far. The Allied planes have pretty drab schemes...

When my Spad VII is back in the air I will build an Italian Ansaldo SVA-1.

Chuck_zc,
Thanks for the links ! I have not seen them before. I especially like 'Fonck's Personality' in the first link ! Increadable ! And the description from his 'best freind'... Whoa !
I gotta print it off to show my 'rivals' at the next WW1 combat match. They will have a good laugh... I'm not like that (I swear ! hehehe)

Still looking for a good colour 2-3 view of a Fonck SpadVII though. I am suprised that it is hard. He was the second highest scoring Ace of WW1.

Mabee it has something to do with his personality ! HeHeHe

I enjoy researching/learning about these WW1 planes/pilots as much as building and flying them. I've got a couple weeks before my shop is warm enough to spray the latex...

Thanks for the links Charles.

Take care,
Have fun,
