Good stiff south wind today, couldn't resist the temptation to go slopin' !

Had a brain fart - left the tx at home! Went back for the tx & talked Starduster two into bringing his Sig Wonder to slope with.

His turn for a brain fart! Launched the Wonder off of the hill, climbed out beautifully - looking really good - Oh Oh! Not responding - forgot to turn the receiver switch on!!

So he is downstairs now, epoxy & balsa dust flying, so we can make the Lougheed fun fly this afternoon!

Couldn't talk Ike( the dog) into retrieval huh?

You know what they call it when you have two brain farts together?

Nope! Just posted to show wind strength - he has stand up ears! Couldn't keep my hat on, cranked 'er down & 1/4 turn for lock & still blew off!

Nice calm evening at Lougheed - Sig Wonder flying as good as ever!

Re: Sloping at Coronation

Yup, it was a good day all around here in Coronation. Haven't been able to make a trip down here in the summer to go flying for a few years, so enjoying this trip. The boys are having fun at Grandma and Grandpa's house too, so that is a bonus.

I am happy to say that the Wonder does indeed fly again, quite well I might add. It does seem like it would make a decent free flight glider though, it went pretty good all on its own up on the slope You would think that as long as I have been flying I would have remembered to do my "wiggle check" before I tossed'er over the edge!!

WOW, That sure looks like one sweat place to fly. We don't have anything like that hear. To bad about the Brain Fart.LOL. I only have to slip back down the basement if that happens to me. Al

Re: Sloping at Coronation

That is only one of many slopes along a series of hills that is called the Neutral Hills out here! That one faces due south with a long flat approach for the wind.

Truly a first class hill!

There is another that I am going to explore, south and east facing facets & about double the height! My favorite for north west winds has a bowl that concentrates the lift & also has a long flat approach. We have flown off of that one when the wind at the top of the hill was so weak it was hard to determine wind direction & still had enough lift to gain good altitude!

Yes we are lucky to have some great sites!

Too bad we have so few flyers to share them with!

Re: Sloping at Coronation

That looks like the same slope that I checked out a couple of weeks ago. Nice to see that it is being used.

Re: Sloping at Coronation

I'm gonna kill 2 birds with one stone here. I told Chris I would send a link for maps of RC related sites. It is on here somewhere but I'll post it again. http://rcmapy.com/en/?map=us There, Merv can put on his site, and I know Chris has a bunch he can share too!

EDIT: BTW welcome to RCC Chris!

Yes! Welcome Chris! And thanks again for attending our fun fly. Your big scale Schweitzer was the highlight of the weekend for me! No offence intended to all the other pilots, your birds were appreciated too! I just happen to be partial to gliders... and scale birds! My cross to bare!

Chris, I was disappointed that schedules didn't line up to allow me to tour you around the hills! If it is the same hill, you went north of Veteran to Nose Hill, then east on Barnwell road about 6 miles & it was on the north side of the road. Could have introduced you to the land owner - good friend of mine & enthusiast of all things flying!

The hill is accessible by oil lease road & land owner permission to the top. It is also the back drop for the local gun club so anyone with allergies to flying lead would be advised to avoid flying there on Sundays & Wednesday nights!

There is another south & south east facing ridge of hills further east on Hwy 41 north of Consort that would be worth trying too!

Let me know if you ever plan another trip this way!
