It should be fine. Dave Platt's engine of choice for his 1/5 Spit was the ST2500, a 1.5ci 2 stroke, and it worked extremely well.

You may want to rethink your engine choice .Most pica 1/5 scale spits (88inch) come out between 20-28 pounds .Use as light as possible wood in the tail .I have seen most fly on 40-50cc gasers or moki 1.8 , 2.1 or even a super tiger 4500 .

One 1/5 Pica Spit at the field used a ST2500 and 4 pounds of lead in the nose to balance at the C og G., complete plan turned out heavy - build light.

Thanks Kenair, The new kits are showing lighting holes in all the tail surfaces. I also plan on using lighter wood in the Aft. fuselage as they have supplied plywood formers right back to the tail.

Good Plan: A pal of mine had one. Started with a 3000 and ton of lead in the nose. Ended with a 4500 and lead. It was fully tricked out. I test flew it with balance just inside spec and it was squirrely. Best aim for a bit nose heavy 'til you're sure of it.

Given all of the helpful input on this project, I am building this model as light as possible, especially from cockpit aft. I have also decided to go with a gas engine approx. 40 cc.

Thanks you all for your comments

Spitfire

The Saito 180 will fly the Pica 1/5 Spit 'No worries' afterall Dave Platts prototype flew on an O.S. 91... It also depends on the Spifire mark you choose to model eg. a Mk IX will need more lead than a longer nosed Mk XIX etc. Keep her light in the tail as you will be adding a fair chunk of nose lead to balance anyway... thats probably why most fly with heavy gas burners up front.
