Re: Q500 flying

I am using the stock Jett muffler on the .46. And the prop(s) that Ed sent me two years ago... (still owe you a favor Ed!)

I think some day I will build a more modern design, maybe one of those all composite V tails and get something even hotter than the Jett.

How much are those new Profi's?

Re: Q500 flying

Any of you guys have trouble balancing these? I've got an old Scat Cat, that is new, and with a K & B 40, and a flat motor mount, it was way nose heavy. I really don't want to cut the nose down, or add lead. Everything is stuffed back as far as I can take it, but I might have to make a battery hatch in the rear.

Many thanks, Daren

Daren,
My Q500 balanced spot on with the Jett 46 and largish muffler, and a standard 4 cell pack without any weight needed.

It feels nose heavy, but it balances just over the 25% back from the LE and fly's well.

Maybe use heavier balsa for the tail fins?

Thanks Andrew, I've got to set it up again on the balancer. I just remember it almost fell of it, when I put it on. I would like to try my 46AX on it, the K & B I put on it was a slobbering mess, that didn't run worth spit anyways.

Take care, Daren

Well, I bought the kit for mine for $40 from a guy here on RCC. Quick to build, sheeted foam cores, just needed to join and FG the center section and cover with film. The fuse is an easy box, and sheet tail, again all covered with Monokote in my case.

I guess to go "fast", a decent engine will set you back whatever you need to spend. varies a lot, new/used - and what do you want to use.

I like my Jett. Its a great RC engine, pretty strong running and reasonable prices. A new Q500 Jett is $325 to $375 US. A sport Jett 46 like the one I have is $275 US, not as strong, but good for other RC uses where you want/need a fully throttling engine.
