How is everyone? I'm returning to the sport after 4 or 5 yrs and looking forward to hitting the club in the coming week. Receiving my wings at 11yrs. old was a little young for me to fully understand the complexity of RC models and usually left me with damaged equipment and little know-how on how to fix it. Regardless of the past I'm looking forward to getting my Dragon Lady 40 and joining the flying club for the summer. Combat flying was getting quite popular when I was younger and into the hobby and am just curious where this subset of the hobby is now. Any info on this would be great! As well as any comment/tips for my return.
Peace.

Alive and well. There is a club in the London area that is made up mostly of combat. Fun to watch.

R/C Combat

Hi Zee,

Welcome Back !

Maac Scale Combat is going strong after 5 years. 18 pilots at our last match in early June. Our next is Death Valley Dogfight in Toronto on Sun. July 10th. See the Combat forum here at RCC for details.

The London gang fly combat every Sunday and are a great bunch of pilots to fly with.

If you PM me your ph.# I can call you and answer any questions.( I have free long distance after 6PM and on weekends)

Good luck 'getting back on the sticks'...

Take care,
Have fun,

P.S.
HeyJim,
If you are interested in some'real' scale precision flying you should try scale combat. Trying to cut a 30ftX1in streamer with a 40-44in wing with 6-7 planes in the air at a time...
Sorry Jim, I couldn't resist ! ! ! HeHeHe

Coming Back

Hi Zee,

Please feel free to stop by the K/W Flying Dutchmen field and visit with us. There is fliers at out field most mornings and evenings, but very little activity in the afternoons except on weekends. We also have weekly float flies scheduled at 2 per week at the Floradale Dam in Elmira.

Our training night is Thursday evening.

Our flying field is at the Waterloo Rod and Gun Club and is very close to Saint Jacobs and the Waterloo market. Look for our Scale Rally the 2nd weekend in Sept. We have many people attending from all over North America and it is a great event with a variety of scheduled flying demos at noon.

Other clubs close by are Guelph, Elmira, Hespeler, Cambridge and New Hamburg - I'm sure they will all welcome you as well, you may want to contact them.

Please introduce your self if you stop by our field, I look forward to meeting with you.

Fly4Fun,

Wayne Miller

Welcome back to the world's greatest hobby/sport!!

Coming south from Fergus and continueing on down Hwy 6, there are a number of clubs here to also consider.. Burlington, Stoney Creek Hawks, Flying Tigers, Brant Flyers in Paris.

Guelph would probably be the closest to you but if you want to venture out, I am sure you would be happily accepted at any of the clubs mentioned here so far and the interest is so diverse in just about any club. The Flying Tigers, where I go for example, has a combat team, a helicopter group, an electric group, about 6 of us fly IMAC scale aerobatics, many many sport flyers, and there are a few turbine guys in the club.

For information and answers to your questions, RCCanada is THE place to be. The knowledge base on this site is second to none anywhere on the net and you will not find a more helpful and friendly group of people, willing to give of their time to get you back into the swing of things. So post and ask away, we're here to help in any way we can!

So shop around, check out whats available to you and enjoy! All the best to you!

Zee - perhaps a little known fact but Fergus has a club that has a flying field just south of town. I have been a member for 6 years after an unfortunate and unproductive year with the Guelph club (nice guys but I could never find an instructor at the field). If you want details please PM me and I would be very glad to answer you or direct you to the field. Our training nights are Tuesday and Thursday and our Chief Instructor is feeling like a Maytag repair man just waiting to train another 'student' !! We would be pleased to have you out to the field in any case. Just let me know

Bill

First and formost, thanks to all for extending invitations, and for all your useful help. My plans are to re-join the Fergus Model Flyers which I had been a member of for 3 yrs. I am aware of all the excellent clubs in my area and am overwhelmed with all the choice. I live in such an excellent location that I seem to be spoiled with many options. With regards to the KW club, I would love to come by sometime meet some of the members and check out your facilities. Thanks for your help Bill, I actually live about two minutes from the Fergus field and am looking forward to getting some touch up lessons with Mr. Jackson. finally with regards to combat flying, I'd again like to thanks everyone for their help, and look forward to attending some flys with a combat model of my own in the not too distant future. Thanks again.
Peace.
