K4.6 won't start...Argh!
Well like the title says, my Savage X's K4.6 won't start. Engine compression is good, but not great.
- Reset my needles back to factory settings - Glow ignitor battery is charged - Glow plug is fine (tried 2) - Fuel is brand new (Blue Thunder 20%) - Engine has a brand new pull starter I tried with the High Speed Needle at 3 turns out which is factory settings, then I started richening it up an eigth of a turn from there not going more than 4-5 times...nothing. I then tried loosening the glow plug and that didn't work either. I checked if the engine was getting fuel and it was. I then checked if it was flooded and it was not. My idle screw is set to factory settings which is flush and I didn't play with that at all, I never had to. What do you think the problem is? This engine used to start up on the 2nd pull, but the last couple of times have been aggravating. Does this engine need to rebuilt or should I just get an new one? If anyone is in the area of Scarborough (McCowan/401) and has time to meet up sometime this week, let me know...I'm on vacation at the moment. Thanks is advance.

is the plug wet after you try and fire it up ?
try pulling the plug a put a couple of drops of fuel in then put the plug back in and see if it tries to fire up. check ur fuel line filter just cuz the engine is getting fuel it may not be getting enough if the filters blocked . same goes for your air filter is it covered in dust ( both pre filter and 2nd primary) lastly check the exhaust isnt pluged up. if none of this works and you have a air compressor Ied take the engine apart and spray it out with some brake cleaner and then blow it out with air and add a bit of after run oil if you have it when u put it all back togather ( if no after run just use a little nitro fuel) Pm me if you need any help I do my best to help ya even know Im more of a electic guy I know my way around a nitro pretty good. |

I'm good, Ron. Just been too busy for this hobby. I try to run the truck when I have free time.

nrort, I'm just going to bring it into my LHS and see if they can start it, I've tried everything.
I used to have a roto start so it would be easier on my hands, but I went through 3 one way bearings, I've gone back to the pull start and I really don't want wicked blisters from a stubborn engine.

sounds like you're answered your own question with an air leak on the backing plate. is the engine rtv gasketed at all? plug all the holes, use some new fuel lines, and spray the engine with a soapy water mix while blowing into the fuel lines. this will show you air escaping. |
