perceived jet noise

This weekend, thanks to the fire ban being lifted Friday, I flew a lot of jets at our club's fun fly.

One thing, since flying primarily my Behotec J66 and J55, but also sometime the RAM 750 and Wren MKIII MW54, is that the Behotec engines are VERY quiet in the air, and on the ground during start up they do not "hurt" my ears.

The RAM 750 is noticeably louder than the J66. But I ran my Wren 54 this weekend for the first time this season, after flying the Behotec J55 in the Reaction many, many times.

WOw, forgot how loud the Wren is (relatively speaking). Hurt my ears... but ran great, as usual

Re: perceived jet noise

Wrens are loud, my SS cranks pretty good, mind you they spin at 160,000 where most are at 120ish

But it is all about the noise

Re: perceived jet noise

I also like the louder Wren SS noise. I can hear my engine over others in the air to know mine is still running. I also have tried to make a habit to wear hearing protection.

I agree Angus. A running turbine is music to my ears.

Re: perceived jet noise

I helped Cliff do the re-maiden of my old Reaction with his new KingTech. So far, the turbine started and ran great and was good on fuel. For 1725 US that engine is a great deal.

The Kingtech 80 had a very distinct sound in the air - not necessarily louder but distinct. You could make it out clearly over the other turbines.

Re: perceived jet noise

Yes, thats the point I was trying to make... each brand - even those that share some commonality - seem to have quite different tones and sounds.

I love the jet "noise" as well - but more so in the air, not on the ground.
