I came across this in canadian Tire and thought I would share it. A knife sharpener that in a few strokes will put a sharp edge on your hobby knife. I have tried sharpening these little buggers(blades) and usually end up dulling them more than they already are. I picked it up for about $8.00 on the w/e. One end is fine (ceramic) and the other is coarse(carbide). It has already became an invaluable tool in my shop and sits on my bench when I'm cutting covering or depron. Both I find dulls a good blades quick.

I've used ceramic knife sharpeners in the past. How do you clean the ceramics when they get gummed up with steel? I've used Comet with success on mine, but it looks difficult to get into that little crevace to clean it!

Many ceramic sharpeners allow you to remove the ceramic rods. You then turn them slightly to expose fresh virgin ceramic.

i have one like that.

pretty simple to use, good for removing burrs on an edge. i bring it out fishing for the filleting knives, but it doesnt replace a true stone imo.

Varsol works well.
Actually when I was an apprentice I worked with one gentleman that kept all his stones in varsol for storage. There was never a problem with them gumming up. Although the lids on the cans he kept them in kept deforming over time.

I've had a Rapala version of that one for fishing for at least 10 years now, and it still gives a nice edge to my fillet knife.

For what it's worth,
Rob
