Re: 1.20 chipmunk

I was using Hitec 425BB on my CMPro 120 Super Chipmunk and they worked fine for my style of flying. I don't fly my planes "balls to the wall", so if you do, you may need stonger ones like the Hitec 475BB. They are only $1.00 more/ servo.

Cheers

Re: 1.20 chipmunk

Hi Louie,

I just got my chipmunk, a month or so ago, I am running hitec 645s, just because that what I had on hand. What kinda of motor are you going to run? I went with an O.S 120 ax I haven't flown mine yet, Just have to finish radio set up, final checks, and balance etc. If anyone has any input on how, mods, swapping hardware, and how this plane flies, I'd be interested to hear it.

Cheers

I was using a ST G90 in mine and it was a blast to fly.

I did open up the top of the wing above the landing gear torque blocks and reinforced them. I had the torque blocks come loose by simply installing the landing gear. I would highly recommend doing this.

Also, the CG on this plane appears to be to far back. After conversing with a gent on RCU, I moved my CG ahead of the recommended CG by about 3/4 of an inch and she flew like a dream.

I also used a seperate servo installed into the bottom of the fuse for the tailwheel, connected to the tailwheel with shock absorbing linkages and y-harnessed it to the rudder.

Just a few tips to make your maiden a success.

Good Luck
Curt

Re: 1.20 chipmunk

It is a CMPro 120 size Super Chipmunk. Very nice looking and flying airplane. I butchered the cowl up a fair bit trying to get the ST G90 fit in there that I am not too proud of. But, alas, I put her into a canola field last summer after my ailerons jammed, so she is in the "to be repaired later" corner. I hope to get some time this summer to rebuild it as I do love how this plane flies and looks.

There is an easy way to put holes in the cowel to clear motor heads and needel valves etc.
Tape some paper just behind the cowel edge, hold the paper over your motor and mark where you need to cut out on the paper. then fold the paper back the tape will act like a hinge. remove cylinder head from motor so the cowel can go on and you still have the crank shaft to line up your cowel. then bring the paper back to position and copy on cowel. keep the hole you traced a bit under sized. and keep test fitting until its done. it will be perfect.
in some cases you don't have to take off the head of the motor. taking your time making the hole bigger and bigger using the template that is taped to your fuse. you can get it into place for fine tuning.

Re: 1.20 chipmunk

yep that's a good one. I really like what world models does.... they send along a clear plastic thin copy of the cowl that just nicely fits over the actual cowl.... do your necc. cutouts on the clear one then slide it over the actual cowl and there you have it.....

Re: 1.20 chipmunk

Where are you buying the World Models in Canada, or are you shipping from the states?
