I have the Saito .91 in my Hog Bipe with a 14x6 apc prop. They do take a while to break in and each while the power just increases. My high speed is 3 full turns out and I have loads of power. This is after about 3 gallons. As you noted you have more engine than you need so take advantage and keep it rich and you'll be rewarded with a long living engine.

As has been stated, if you follow the book that came with the engine, you can't go wrong.

All inputs are great and taking into consideration. Gary and Lord Kimbo,, there were no problem with fuel tank, as far as I know the fuel tank is level with the carb. Nony, I don't have the instruction of the Golden Knight, it came with the plane I bought. Years ago I used to owned 2 saito 65.. they are great engine, they both of slider choke, funny this one does not come with a slider choke. It starts great doesn't need any choking as well.
High speed needles is now set at 3 turns out now. Will try again later this weekend.

Thanks

Hi Naomi,

Just to clarify, my Saito has 3 gallons through it. I started at roughly 4 turns out and turned it in slowly every other tank. Basically I tached it to peak and backed off as per instructions.

Heli Gal, If you have a tach, use it to get the best rpm setting. Slowly turn in the high speed needle until you get maximum rpm and then turn it back out 2 - 300 rpm. This will give you a somewhat rich setting seeing the engine is still fairliy brand new.

On my engines, even when broken in I run them about 200 rpm rich at all times. This helps save the engine and gives relyable operation!

Bob, I just fired it up just now, 4 turn is great.. but it starts to load up a bit at the transition after idling a bit, so I give it about 3½ turns on the high speed .. I let it idles a bit then throttle up.. there is no loading up, I also give it a quick rev, transition is pretty smooth, I think that's the ticket..
I tached it now at 8200rpm on full throttle, idling at 3300rpm.. Is that sound good ?

Sounds perfect. You have loads of power so you don't need to lean it out to the last rpm. Tach it again after about 5-6 tanks and slowly lean it out a few clicks (but no more) if you need too. As said, running a bit rich never really hurt an engine. With smooth transition, what more could you ask for.

Nothin' like the sound of a 4-stroke
