Antique ARF!

Just came across a couple ARF sail planes. They were up on a shelf colecting dust. Lotsa dust the place is now a pet shop. The guy used to sell RC stuff 15 or more years ago. So any way he neeeded a trany flush and I needed some new toys. So we traded. Did 200 bucks worth of work for him. I hope I didn't get ripped off!

So one sail plane was started the other is still in box. There both electri light sailplanes. Skyward R&D Labritories. Sold through Udisco.

I snapped a few pics so here they are.

I was impressed with the packing job. Ltsa buble pack and foam. Nice job!

The plane came bundled with a speed 600 and old school looking speed control. A small 6.5" grapner folding prop too. I'm putting a Typhoon outrunner in it so with bump the prop up too 12x10 The plane was designed around the big speed 600 and Nicd so to help keep it balanced I'm going to use my 10 cell Nicd 1300 mah pack.

One last shot for tonight.

I did get my typhoon intalledtonight. And control surfaces glues in. The already started one I'm working on is missing all the little bits like windshield control horns. So I'm busy rummaging throught the airframe grave yard looking for bits and pieces.

More pics tomorrow I hope.

To mount a Typhoon motor I had to cut a hole in the firewall. Well did'nt have too but this was the easiest way to work with all the stuff I had on hand. This move didn't leave much meat in the original balsa firewall. So used lots of screws

I wasn't sure what types of seos to use. I use HS 55's in just about all my other planes. But I had some Hitec 442's laying around so went that route. Pushrods are 1/4 square Spruce.

I think the large servos far back and the Push rods made it pretty tail heavy. But I don't think I have to worry about the servos not doing there job.

She ended up being heavy in the tail. So I had to add nose weight. Rather than add dead weight I added a 4 cell nicd 600 mah for the reciever. The instalation aint pretty but should stay cool!

The motor pack is a 10 cell MEC pack.

So I replaced those with this set up. Added bonus of wheel pants should keep the sand flats gumbo off my plane.
