I maidened the Sobre' and got its RTF weight. My plane is 7.2 oz. The only mod was to switch to a single ail servo.
I used:
e-flite 300
480 3cell
3 s60 eflite servos (6 gram)
thunderbird 9 speed control
Berg 4l rx, yes I am still flying 72mhz

It flew quite well, much better than a shock flier IMHO. The sobre would make an excellent 3d outdoor foamy but it can hold it's own indoors if it is built light.
I had fun with it and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a good all around foamy

I also picked up another Divo. Now that I know how a stock one flies, I am going to modify and reduce weight but still use the same equipment.

My plan for the divo to reduce weight is thus:

I am going to mill out the foam on the fuse, wings and tail. I am going to replace the wing carbon with thread. Not Kevlar or carbon thread just plane old cotton thread. Pulling thread to destruction IMHO takes at least 30-50 lbs. It will never ever see this kind of load on an indoor foamy.

I am doing away with the foam fuse stiffener. In its place I will use some carbon and thread to stiffen the fuse. This will result in a stiffer fuse as shown by the Sobre'. I am going to move the rudder servo back approx 2.5" as the stock Divo was way nose heavy. I am going to use a thread pull-pull on the elev.
Due to a lack of easily located material I may leave the landing gear stock unless someone has a good easy idea.
My goal is 6.4oz RTF. We will see.
If anyone has any good ideas or methods please post them. I am going to take pictures with descriptions as I go.
I plan on using mostly thin Foam safe Ca for the build. I used this on the Sobre' and I am extremely pleased with the results.

Hey Russ

Check this out. From the Foamy Factory site, it's an article about the Kevlar truss brace system, similiar to what you want to do. Might help ...

Thanks Frank. Thread will cut depron like a knife through hot butter. I plan to use wire insulation as a grommet and glue the thread to the oposite side with thin CA. I appreciate the link. I am also planning to use the stock attachment points for the wings and add some new points to the tail.

I have been using that thread method since winter 06, I tried fishing line first, but it stretched too much. So, I started using upholstery thread, strong and no flex.

As far as thread cutting through the foam, I take a control rod plastic tube and cut it into 3mm pieces, then poke a hole in the foam and a tiny dab of CA and put the plastic piece in the hole, this way, no affect on the foam.

Only thing I don;t like about this setup is, you have to be careful, so that you don;t overtighten it and or leave it a bit loose, if has to be dead right tension.
