Re: glow to elctric conversion questions
ya it is built. My original intention was for glow, but decided be nice to try electric in it. Balanceing could be an issue, but seems to me I re did the tail a bit as I was concerned about balanceing from the start.Would have to make a couple of minor mods for the batts. Kinda forgot about that..lol..not a big prob though.Just thought it would be nice to try bigger electrics see what they are like.
I allready have a great planes extra 330s 3d and I love it.And a thought that has been bounceing in my head is to build the ziroli b25 mitchal that I have plans for, into an electric...:O:O... but thats a whole diff ball game to try that I am sure.

Re: glow to elctric conversion questions
Not sure if you considered this, but a lot of air must flow over and past the motor, ESC and battery for cooling purposes. You will need air inlets and a outlet. The outlet usually is an opening in the bottom of the fuse with a well placed deflector plate.
Easy to do on the Beaver. I have an 8 foot turbo Beaver on electrics (and floats). You will like it. Good luck. |

Re: glow to elctric conversion questions
thanks bear.. I'll keep it all in mind.. between jobs at the moment so buying any goodies is out of the question. There just might end up being nuff room in the cowl for all of it, but haven't thought that far ahead yet.. or tried.. lol

Re: glow to elctric conversion questions
A hole-cutting drill bit will come in handy.
I've used an AXI 2826/10 on a 45-sized trainer and not had problems with power with a 3300 20C 4S pack, a CC Phoenix 45 and 1070 e-props (might have gone 11-6 but don't have around at the moment.) |

Re: glow to elctric conversion questions
Your motor choice will work fine. Build a light motor mount box with a battery tray in the bottom, cut away most of the stock ply firewall and interior formers. Glue or use the installed blind nuts in the stock firewall to mount
The plane is way over built even for glow and needs nose weight to balance. For my electric planes I use modeling clay pressed into the front of the cowl ring, it stays in place as with electric there is no heavy vibration to shake it loose. With electric power you are going to swing a larger dia prop so check the ground clearence. I fly Lipo's, have not tried A123 cells yet but two guys in my club use them on non 3D setups with excellent results. They can be charged @ very high rates +3C and then ran right down without hurting them. |

glow to elctric conversion questions part 2
Ok guys.. still diggin around for sum answers. In regaurds to my previous post:
https://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/showthread.php?t=88462 I am looking at prob the motor I listed or similar TURNIGY AerodriveXp Model: TR42-60A Next questions are, what size speed controler and what size battery packs am I looking at?? I am thinking 40 to 50 amp speed controler. But battery size I am a little confused about now. Do I use a 11 volt 3s? or do I up it to a 14 volt 4s battery? I am thinking I am gonna want at least 2500 mah and prob something bigger for a lil longer flight times. I haven't weighed my beaver yet, but somewheres around 5.5 to 6 pounds weight. And Like I said, want to fly off water.

Re: glow to elctric conversion questions
Go 4S and a min 40AMP speed control. Are you planning on a seperate batt for the servos? or pulling power from the flight batt with the speed control power supply or a seperate BEC?
