2.4 is it good for RC Sailing

I was given two stories, one 2.4 is no problem to be used in a boat, and the other story is that the 2.4 systems have no range on water.
I have two sailboats, and both have my Fast 6X 2.4 and so far no problems, but I sometime wonder about my range. one of the boats is the Thunder Tiger New Zealand America's Cub boat. Beautiful and fast even in high winds.

Re: 2.4 is it good for RC Sailing

That is an interesting question.

What does water have to do with the radio signal? On what basis are these people making their claim?

To just say it would make no more sense than to say your range will be increased/decreased/ or whatever if there is a tin of cat food between your transmitter and your receiver. Mind you if the moon happens to be made of green cheese and it's a blue Sunday at precisely 2:01:03 pm, in the Atlantic time zone on January 6 and all the stars are aligned properly, your range will be increased by a factor of 4.

So what is this based on?

Re: 2.4 is it good for RC Sailing

no good on water? While I personally do not have any 2.4 gear I've been at a couple of float flys where many of the guys are using 2.4.

I didn't see any of the guys having any problems taxxing their planes way way down the lake, or recovering from way way down the lake on landing.

no good on water? nonsense!

Re: 2.4 is it good for RC Sailing

The 2.4 works on a line of site setup. I've noticed issues behind snow banks and past some rises in elevation with my revo. Might be a problem if you get in a wave trough? The loss of signal returns when I raise the transmitter.

I haven't had any issues with my dx7 though

Re: 2.4 is it good for RC Sailing

Thanks, it is what I thought also. As I have a J3, 108" which I only fly on floats with the 2.4 and never had a problem. But when I heard these two fellows not both together, but at different locations, then it got me wondering.
Thanks for the answers.

Word on the street is that the frequency hopping 2.4 (Futaba and Airtronics) have no issues. Whereas the 2.4 that stays on the one channel (glorified 72mhz - JR and Spektrum) are having issues.

Re: 2.4 is it good for RC Sailing

just make sure you bind in fail safe and you should be fine I personally have a dx3r and used it with a tunnel hull boat at my cottage and never even had a glitch but I have heard stories about this problem.

Re: 2.4 is it good for RC Sailing

Oh, that makes sense. The fellow had mentioned something about skipping. but not mention the make of the radio. I have the Futaba 2.4 so maybe that is why have had no problems. Thanks, good info.

Re: 2.4 is it good for RC Sailing

2.4 FASST with R603FF recivers these are only 3 Ch.. and never had a glitch I have tested its range of just over 1000ft then it just started to act up a bit we are about 17 guys that go race our boats on the weekends and use the same system with no problems up to date the only one that i have seen that works with no glitches is Futaba FASST systems.

That sounds good to me.
Especially the part that you said, no troubles with the FASST systems.
