Re: Carden 35% Edge 540 build.... 3-B
Ok Good to hear
I am going to pick up a couple pieces of wood today. Probably some mdf 1/2 or 3/4 to make a better CG stand. I will start with 1 inch behind the marked CG and see how that goes. As for fuel in the tank, unfortunately, not in the house LOL. I might put 500ml ( 1/2 tank equivalent ) of water in a ballon that can be put down along side the fuel tank Never pay again for live sex! | Hot girls doing naughty stuff for free! | Chat for free!

Re: Carden 35% Edge 540 build.... 3-B
Brad my first Carden 330 weighed in at 33lbs. It was powered with a ZDZ 100. It had plenty of power to fly the plane. It would also pull it out of a hover in 80 degree weather. Wasn't a rocket but non-the-less it would do it.
The plane was also a floater and extremely stable. A testament to Carden's design. Like everyone else has said DO NOT WORRY the plane will The Yak I had come in at 31lbs with a smoke system and the 260 I have come in at 30lbs. |

Good idea!! Here's hoping the ballon doesn't break!! Since the fuel tank is right next to the CG, I'd just take a 500ml bottle and set in on the hatch for balancing - I think you'll see that it only moves the CG ahead by about 1/8" If I recall, the balance on these 35% Edges is about 3.2:1 (meaning 1oz in the tail needs 3.2oz on the motorbox). Worst case is that you have to strip the rudder and core out the sheeting and foam and do the same on the elevators if you still want to keep the Durant in place. You'll get out 5oz if you cored the tail surfaces, which is the equivalent to 5X3.2 = 16oz on the nose for balance. But - I really don't think you'll have to do that!!! I have always flown my 35% Cardens at 1" behind the CG and in a 45 upline, inverted, it's hands off. I remember when we set-up Jim's Yak, I set it up for the maiden at 1" behind the CG (his batteries were on the m-box sides, above the canisters) and he was sure it wouldn't fly - turns out it was perfect! My 40% Ultralight Edge turned out to fly best (for 3D) at 2" behind the CG - Edges are more forgiving of CG with the wing design. Everything you've done to date is bang on and you should be very proud of your accomplishment! Just wait - you'll be nothing but giggles when you maiden it!!! |

The 27lbs 35% Carden is an urban myth (unless u extensively lighten it like Trevor), everyone on the internet claims to fly one but, i think their wife is getting to the scale before them . A "nicely lightened" one will be 28.5lbs without smoke. i would put the aluminum gear back on it, a truturn spinner, all the gear u can get up front, then balance it. The carbon fibre stuff will cost u nothing but grief eventually anyway( been there, done that), it'll break on you and spoil an absolutely pristine flying day. Better to have the durability of the aluminum as u need the weight up front anyway. Mike Last edited by luv2flyrc; 02-25-2011 at 11:41 AM. |

Re: Carden 35% Edge 540 build.... 3-B
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the encouragement I still have all the original equiptment. So if I can't get the CG close, I will look at putting some of it back. Never pay again for live sex! | Hot girls doing naughty stuff for free! | Chat for free!

Re: Carden 35% Edge 540 build.... 3-B
Scaleguy's Yak was "nicely lightened" and came in at 28.5lbs (a big help was that his kit had the new wood and foam) and was a rocketship with the 100L and he went to 3 blade to tame it down a bit.
Brad... Don't forget also that your kit is the original wood/foam... A new kit will be about 3/4 LB lighter and I've seen kits vary by 1/2 LB due to the wood density alone. I can't wait to see the maiden... Only 2 more weeks!!!! |

Simple CG stand. Spent $5 on material. The brakets and MDF base I already had.
Also a shot of the ply plate and carbon pivot point taped on at 1 inch behind CG. Never pay again for live sex! | Hot girls doing naughty stuff for free! | Chat for free!

1 1/4" behind CG was it It sat there as pretty as a picture. The batteries will be on the motorbox right behind the firewall Now I can relax, remove the cowl again Mount the batteries. Oopps, need to lengthen the power leads going to the receiver with the batteries up front. Tidy up and tie up all the wireing. With the cowl off, I might still add another shim or 2 and push the engine forward 1/8. My spinner to cowl gap is less then an 1/8 right now. I wouldn't want them rubbing or touching from any vibrations. Never pay again for live sex! | Hot girls doing naughty stuff for free! | Chat for free!
