Question Measuring Thrust on EDF's

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Hey guys! I finnaly bought an electronic Fish scale to measure my planes waight and the Thrust.(all EDF's without gear!) What is the most accurate way to measure thrust. With the plane pointed straight down and thrusting towards the ground or horizontaly. Wouldnt horizontaly add friction to the plane?

Thanks

Edit! To add to my thoughts. If i were to hang the plane down and measure the waight of the plane, and then go to full thrust and subtract the waight of the plane.... would that not be an accurate way of measuring thrust?

Re: Measuring Thrust on EDF's

I would do it horizontally. You need free turning wheels of some type on the mount but once full thrust is achieved the mount will be stationary and the friction loss on the wheels should be zero or very close to it.

I would try to keep the area where the air exits the fan as free of obstructions as possible.
