Aerotowing in the Maritimes

WE did it, We did it.

Aerotowing yesterday was a great success and lotsa fun. It wasn't as hard as we thought it was going to be. Careful preparation and great advice from Jim D helped in making this a successful venture into Aerotowing.

WE used a Hostetler Decathlon for the Tug with a DA100. The only issue we had with it is that there was some flutter in the tail. Not really surprised as it was way over powered with the DA100. It weighs 31 lbs and the vertical performance was definetely non-scale.

The Glider is a ASW 17 that I had scratch built, wingspan is144" . It flew great as well. I have flown alot of gliders in the past and this one is the best so far.

Thanks to everyone that helped yesterday.

Re: Aerotowing in the Maritimes

Hi Mike,

Glad that everything went well. Definetly the only way to launch the large sailplanes. We normally tow to 1000 ft. or higher if the tug and sailplane are offering good visibility.
Glad you enjoyed yourself.
Happy towing
Jim.

Re: Aerotowing in the Maritimes

I have no experience in towing, but I have a Multiplex Mentor and could offer my services, it would be for lighter planes of course.
