re traxxas slow?

narly is right about nobody racing a traxxas at sids and most big tracks.
i myself race an rc10t4. other popular 1/10 electrics are the losi and kyoshos are the ones people use to race.

but i have to say the comment made about rustlers being slow is wrong. check out the new brushless traxxas rustlers and stampedes and they can do over 60 mph with a lipo battery. definately not slow by any means.

but how they actually handle on a race track is another matter. im sure the new brushless traxxas 1/10 trucks could hold their own against the t4s and the losi xxxts with the right setup.

What ever you decide. Please ask questions. There a few things during building that can save you time and money. Especially in the shock and diff building process. Best of Luck !

I've been a AE guy for a while. Both are great trucks. AE parts are easier to get.

My 4 yr old son loves racing his XL-5 Stampede, plus it's a great basher.
I don't think he's ever broken anything.
Small problem with servo saver & the screws need to be checked\tightened after every race, that's it.

The new VXL is awesome..

When you decide on which truck to buy, I would strongly suggest starting with a 27 Turn motor (referred to as Stock).
This will allow your son to get used the the handling of the truck without the added learning curve of precise throttle control.

The best advice many people gave me when I was starting out was, "go slow to be fast".

A great place to see these trucks and be able to ask questions would be at either Niagara on Oct. 20th or at the Sid's Raceway race at the Hobby Show on Nov. 2nd-4th.

A stock motor will be fine for him to start. He runs my M03M Swift around the track at FastCats pretty good and has some developing skills running his Nitro truck but there is just too much power in that truck for him to control. I have a Tamiya Rising Storm that I have let him use. It has an Orion Method R V2 19t motor that goes pretty quick he has bash ed with on occasion but no real skills required there for his level of bashing.

I want him to learn to drive the offroad track with a truck he can grow into.

I know the feeling, my daughter also want to get into it as well....she loves driving my Tamiya Rising storm around and now wants more too.

But she has to wait a bit....

For really little gaffers I have had the best luck with the 1/18th scale RC18T. Virtually indestructable once set-up right!!

At first Dad runs the throttle trigger and lets the little gaffer steer!!!

How little is real little? Is there much interest on the tracks for racing these little beasts? I have been looking at them too.
