Re: Carbon Fiber Rod - Where to buy??

Problem is they are out of stock of key sizes plus freight is $20 for $28 of product. Last time I bought from USA I got a "handling charge" as well.
Frusterating when the dollar is so good but the freight and buracracy still doubles the price!

I know you say ontario based but why not order from overseas. Not sure where you got dinged freight charge. I know rods are a little long but not oversized by any means.

Checked after posting and none in stock

Re: Carbon Fiber Rod - Where to buy??

I own a company that manufactures carbon fiber products in Hamilton/Stoney Creek, are there any parts you guys are currently looking for that you can't find or custom stuff you need?

Re: Carbon Fiber Rod - Where to buy??

Hi AC
A reasonable price on 1mm carbon rod would be nice.
What could you offer?
Hugh

Re: Carbon Fiber Rod - Where to buy??

I can almost guarantee a lower price than hobby stores charge, but definitely not lower than eBay stuff that ships from Hong Kong (ie 5 x 800mm Length, 3mm Diameter Carbon Fiber Rods for $23 CAN shipped). The problem with rod or any extruded shape is that it's made in huge quantities in China via pultrusion for next to nothing. I can make the exact same product, but since I wouldn't be able to sell 10,000, it wouldn't be via pultrusion and thus would cost more than what they can charge. Do you guys have any carbon part in particular that's extremely hard to find and/or the price hobby stores charge borders on theft? If so I'll see if I can make it, or import it through my contacts overseas to get you guys a break.

My advantage would be stuff you can't find or custom carbon fiber parts you guys need made or engineered. My basic capabilities are in producing any 2-dimensional part/plate and CNCing parts of any size from it, ie a wing spar, ribs, car chassis, etc. I also do mould work from CAD drawings or well-dimensioned sketches, but the parts produced would have to be in quantities larger than 10 parts, so either I'd have to be able to sell 10 to people, sell you 10, or charge for the; mould work, CAD time and part production seperately.

What kind of stuff do you guys need?

How much is it for you locally? I just paid $3.50 a piece for 1mm rod yesterday. Seems slightly expensive to me, but I haven't priced it out anywhere else.
