Shipping from US to Canada

I know this has been done many times but I just came across this service:

http://shiptotheborder.com/finding-y...ipping-address

Basically, you register (free), get your (I'm talkin' airplanes here) parcel shipped to some US border point close to you and pick it up.

Quote:
Border KinekPoint to Use as Your US Shipping Address

Kinek has border KinekPoints in the following US cities:

Calais, Maine

Derby Line, Vermont

Champlain, NY (on the way to Plattsburg)

Ogdensburg, NY

Wellesley Island, NY (only 35 minutes from Kingston, ON)

Buffalo, NY

Niagara Falls, NY

Detroit, MI

Marine City, MI

Port Huron, MI

Sault Ste Marie, MI

Pembina, ND (South of Winnipeg)

Oroville, WA (South of Kelowna and Osoyoos)
As an example, they say up to 10 lb costs you $5 (obviously this does not include the shipping to get from your US seller to this waypoint).

They will accept larger as well (I assume cost schedule is "inside" once you register).

Worth considering.

Anyone have experience with them?

Re: Shipping from US to Canada

I've used similar services but they charge about 1/2 of the one you found. You can't use it as they are not located where you live.
makes shipping easier if seller does not want to ship to canada but you have to drive to US and get the parcel.
Only issue I had was not being able to confirm the address with PayPal so some sellers would not ship to non-paypal registered address.

Re: Shipping from US to Canada

Here is one I have used in Niagara Falls New York. Very close to the rainbow bridge. Crossing back into Canada was a very easy process. They are very familiar with this business in the US. Cost was $5.75 per parcel was willing to keep it all together till I got down there.

Re: Shipping from US to Canada

That is such a great tip.

It's amazing the price difference from shipping within the USA vs shipping to canada. In many cases it is almost double, not to mention the additional "Brokerage" charges that can sometimes be added on. The 5$ fee for this service is a great deal. I guess its only good if you klive close to the border. If it takes more than a tank of gas to get to/from the border, then maybe its not such a great deal.

Re: Shipping from US to Canada...well US Border

For modelers living near Montreal, there is a private company
called Freeport Forwarding in Champlain, N.Y. on the way to
Plattsburgh. They will not call you. You need a tracking number
and when your tracking number indicate your shipment has
arrived in Champlain, N.Y. you drive down to pick it up.
Not expensive either.

Re: Shipping from US to Canada

Thanks for the tip. My current receiver has changed to $5, 10 day hold and closed Sunday. This one in Oroville, WA looks like $3, 30 day hold and open all sorts of hours including Sunday. I will have to try them.
