Just an update.

We did some minor changes to Dragon Link like inserting a filter on the RX so 900Mhz and 1.2Ghz video gear can be used with out disrupting the Dragon Link signal. Also we changed to extruded case for improved antenna grounding. Plus they look sleek and sexy!

Re: Easy To Use LONG RANGE UHF System for our radio

Anything above 430mhz to 450mhz is clearly in the Ham band.

You will require a license (no exception), but once you have that, then you don't have any power restrictions, but you are limited by bandwidth of no more than 12mhz.

You will need to ensure you embed your ham callsign in your transmission.

5.3.4 430–450 MHz

Domestic Allocations

Radiolocation - Amateur

Utilization Policy

The band 430–450 MHz is available for the radiolocation service on a primary basis. Should the need arise in Canada, the Department of Industry may accommodate wind-shear radar/wind-profiler operation in the upper portion of the band 430–450 MHz as a radiolocation type of service.

The amateur-satellite service is permitted in the band portion 435–438 MHz on a secondary, non-protection, non-interference basis. In addition, and on the same secondary basis, the amateur and space operation services and the space research service are permitted in the band portions 440–450 MHz and 449.75- 450.25 MHz, respectively.

Please see the above quote. There are many laws to stop its usage in both Canada and the US.

You might want to check with your lawyer. I have first hand knowledge of units being sold in the US that were in violation of FCC laws and it cost a friend of mine over $250,000 in lawyer fees and fines, and that was just with CB radios.

There are other frequencies that will support this sort of technology. Just not the ones in that band.

Re: Easy To Use LONG RANGE UHF System for our radio

Thanks and I will look into this. As of December of 2009, I handed this project over to my new partner in the states and he is now handling these so I can focus on the Dragon OSD+, IMU (artifical horizon via gyros and accelometer) and possibly the drift free 3 axis Head Tracker.
