Re: CBC The National

this is why i try to keep the hobby kinda low profile to people who think they can do it and dont care about anything but showing off....or have the top of the line and not learn how to crawl before running

those people interviewed fell into the grasp of reporters they edited 90% and kept just the danger side of it.

I expect drones to be banned soon enough , i just hope IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN though.
there is too much publicity on those things in a short amount of time it's never good press.

and with this in mind they will go and check helis and plane too....reviewing the good ol ''safety'' stuff

I just pray that we will be able to keep doing it!

Re: CBC The National

I hate the idea of a draconian ban against goggles like in the US though. And it depends what we're talking about - model aircraft come in all shapes, sizes and abilities. Of course CBC latches on to the '75 lb baby killer drone' hype. But I have never seen a model aircraft half that weight in my life. Most FPV planes come in 1-5 lb range, with some being only an ounce.

I would like to see a better mechanism of accountability for us pilots of FPV craft though. Just as HAM radio have our callsign and it is easy to track us down, anyone choosing to engage and pledge to do only safe flying should be willing to put their name on the line, public and easily tracked down by the authorities. So far the stupid drone sightings go on as mysteries as to what they actually were, and the media and fearmongers fill in the information void with their own hatred, sometimes taking it out on the innocent, safe pilots. I don't know the solution, but the US FAA solution of stomping all over the safe FPV flyers who fly at AMA fields under AMA rules (really they are the only ones who are seriously impacted) is just stupid.

I want to throttle these unsafe flight path 'drone' pilots as much as the next guy, btw. Throw the book at them. I fly fullsize planes too, do not want an encounter with someone's toy out there. like this crap...

Nothing wrong with being passionate about protecting freedom......

........ but kind of ironic that the story is about cops using drones. LOL

Nothing like protecting your freedom with the coppers using them, eh?

hehe

Re: CBC The National

This conversation has happened before - the item has changed.

The product is great but it has the potential to be misused.

Think of; The wheel, gun powder, electricity, the internet and now drones.

Nothing is simple.

Re: CBC The National

The biggest problem faced by the hobby community is the commercialization of drone use.
i.e geographical mapping, land surveys, property sales pre-view, traffic monitoring, search & rescue, construction monitoring and inspection, disaster site review & response co-ordination.
This means the gov will have to draft legislation governing the use and sale of these services. The hobbyist will unfortunately get boxed in by these new rules.
The fact that rogue pilots are drawing attention by indiscriminate uses can only make it worse.
