No I don't think so, CH ignitions were the ones to match (still excellent ignitions), DA had their own which still works well. ZDZ and 3W had higher failure rates, some due to improper installs.

Lots of crashes because of ignition noise in those days. (still user error)

That's about when the ct onslaught started, so I guess you could say there has been an improvement in engines as far as those are concerned. After all these years they still can't seem to match the standard of those years gone by.

ignition noise? was that caused by the bad installs?

forgetting about the ct's for now, has the price of the ZDZ and others changed much at all? Same relative price to a kit say?

I spent about a decade, big into 4 strokes about then. It was Zenoha, that turned me into a gas guzzler.
Like Jack said any radio interference issues were always traceable back to an install issue. Or, maintenance issue if you would rather blame the pit crew (yourself).

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

Metal noises were killer, like a loose washer, ignition components, including batteries and extensions to close to RX etc Scott.

Lots of attention to gas engine installs if you wanted your plane too last. For those of us going it at that time, we still carry over much of the installation procedures even though 2.4 is almost immune too it.

Cost? I believe it's very close Scott. It has gone up some but our dollar was $1.35-$1.50 at that time so the costs are about the same.

In those pics I run ZDZ's because I refused to run DA in those days...lmao!!

Next in line was 3W, then finally I bought a DA 100!!

Manny, I tried a few.
I think the first one was our Motorhome with two trailers behind it.
