From Transport Canada..

Looks like we will ALL have to register (or 'check in'), if you require a special flight permit you need to do this anyways but now if you are 'exempt' you now have to as well..

I guess all RC are UAV's then. They are unmanned and controlled via radio control within LOS. SFOC for huge gassers then?

Re: Out Yesterday!!

Actually, the good thing is that if your multi is under 2kg's, you don't need a SFOC for commercial operation. You may need one for 2-25kg's. An insurance policy would be a must for commercial ops.

Re: Out Yesterday!!

I don't think you have to register. If you want to make money check the site to see where you stand with your setup. It will tell you if you need a SFOC. I'm guessing regular RC flying is not what this news release is about. I think the MAAC guidelines that clubs follow will be the same as always.

Re: Out Yesterday!!

I read it. It doesn't really say anything new. Under 2 kilos who cares.
It doesn't say anything about the 2-25 Kg class either.

Where do you get the requirement to register or "check in"?

Unless you mean to "check the website" for the 2-25KG, and I'm willing to bet it will be the current flowchart that makes the distinction between commercial drone vs hobby drone.

Plus, if I am reading it right, the website is also saying that it will be easier to get and SFOC(Should you need one), which is a real improvement over the current SFOC process, which takes 4-12 weeks(if you are lucky) and about 10 pages of paperwork!
