Re: 12v and 24v+ high output power supplies

Hi there , thanks for contacting me. I currently
Have a meanwell 24v 2000w. I only get 60amp
Out with 110 but I'm going to setup a 220v then I can get
80amps out max the 2 pl8.

I don't have 220v into my house on a 100amp
Supply panel. Do you know if I can make a double
Breaker setup for 220v receptacle like most
Do for stove and dryers?

Hi kevin,

First off, I need to say it lol.....HOLY BEANS, $450+tax/shipping for this power supply!!! lol

Mine woulda been half that price for two 24v setups

Not sure which one of these two you had planned on a 220v setup but I would say:

#1
If your plan is to literally use a stove/dryer outlet, then I think you could. But you would have to make up a cord with a stove plug on one end with the other end being the style you need for your power supply. But it would get rather annoying moving your stove or dryer every time to get that plug lol.

#2
If you can get your hands on say a European style wall outlet with the appropriate matching power cord. Then yes, it would be possible. But the problem would arise where that EU outlet would not be CAS approved(Canadian Standards Association) as we do not use 220v receptacles in Canada. So if your house ever burns down because of electrical(even totally unrelated to that outlet), the house insurance company might cause problems for you.

After looking at that power supply, the better option would be to just run it off a 20a breaker on 110v to get the full 2000w power as stated on the website I found it on.

PLEASE NOTE
Unless you have a newer house which has 12-2 wire running to your kitchen with 20a breakers running your kitchen receptacles already. Then you would need to put a 20a breaker in your panel and run 12-2 wire to 20a rated receptacle, wherever you plan on installing it. Normally receptacles are rated for 15a and run off 15a breakers with 14-2 wire but the 20a breakers need the thicker 12 gauge wire with a 20a rated receptacle.

As a 3rd option, and at the end of the day, I know it kinda suxx since you have all that power already with the meanwell. But it may be cheaper, if your gonna have to hire an electrician. You could just get a 2nd 24v power supply(cough, cough, mine) and run each PL8 separately off 2 power supplies. This way you could run them off 2 separate regular 15a breakers which you already have in your house. Do you have any double 15a breakers in your panel???, I bet they go to a split receptacle in your kitchen where both plugs on the same receptacle would have 15a each and you could plug both power supplies into the same outlet

Re: 12v and 24v+ high output power supplies

Even with a 20 amp receptical which I purchased
And the 12 gauge wire and 20amp breaker
I would only get 60amp output which is the specs
On the meanwell 24v 2000w. If I install
The same outlet as a stove or dryer , and install bullet connectors
Or something rated high enough to make it convenient
To switch between my generator at the field
And 220v at home. With 110v I can get 60amp out and
220v I can get 80amp out for 2 pl8 to max the charger.

I only paid 199 plus free shipping for the rsp-24v-2000w
Meanwell from ebay. The guy I bought it from
Usually always has them in stock. SOLIDSYSTEMSTECH
is his ebay handle if your interested in purchasing one someday. Mine was
Used for 3 hours for testing purposes and so it's used. But I'm very happy with it.
Thanks again for your help.

Doing a look at ebay, and I think you may have got lucky lol. I can't find that price at all. Cheapest one is 400+, closest thing to that price was a 1000w meanwell for $250. I also could not even find that seller when doing an advanced search for anything that seller was selling.
