Cloneout hex build

assembly of Cloneout hex under way now. This is a mini racing hex, meant for carrynig Gopro - has a dampended clean-stage for battery and Gopro. Nicknamed a Cloneout because it is a rough copy of the legendary Blackout mini-spider-hex frame.
- Mullet Naxe32 acro FC
- Cloneout CF frame from Goodluckbuy http://www.goodluckbuy.com/6-axis-29...-rack-kit.html
- Cobra 2204 1960kv motors
- HQ 5x4 props
- Frsky rc
- Boscam 5.8 200mW FPV w PZ0420 cam

I find the frame construction of this model a bit on the fragile side. If it busts I can quickly remove the power system for install in a similar hex frame. I have been waiting for FPVReconn to get their RD290 hex in stock, as I like that design better than the Blackout

Using this wee PDB .. makes life easy and easy to keep wires short. 12V BEC for power from 4S to the FPV

12A Rotorgeeks ESC. Now some have no BEC, just one white wire for FC connection. But they also have a short 3 wire servo connector, I guess for non-multirotor use? I presume the FC ground just uses the main ground wire. So a bit of weight saved. Nice small light ESC. Promised to work great with 4S and Cobra 1960. Very cool that the ESCs automatically does a beeping sound if left powered and unattended for 10 min ... so no need to add a lost model beeper. Just wish it had PCB pads to solder the motor leads to instead of pigtail wires, but the way it is probably saves weight.

Just need to solder motor wires, install the Rx and FPV, program the FC. Actually turning out to be a lot less cluttered than my Minion. Tall standoffs leave plenty of room to install all the FPV and receiver under the top plate. open access to the USB plug a huge bonus compared to my Minion which requires half disassembly to access the usb.

premilinary AUW looks to be about 800-850g with fpv, Mobius and 2200-3300 4S. a touch lighter than a Blackout hex or similar. Motors with 5x4 and 4S power measured to output 750 grams per motor. That makes it potential to have a max power:weight ratio of over 5x!. lol will need some throttle curve work I guess

Off topic but how did you find dealing with goodluckbuy?
I have heard a lot of horror stories about them.

Re: Cloneout hex build

no problem for me, but I would not recommend this frame. I just wanted a hex with these features to get started. I plan to move the electronics to a higher end frame as they come more available. It will fly great, but not hold up to the inevitable hard crashes that I expect while flying this thing aerobatics/proximity
