Re: Old time engine

Ohlsson is in very nice, clean, like new condition. The tank looks OK but that cloudy look may mean that someone tried to run it on glo-fuel at some time - they are made of some sort of acetate that glo-fuel will soften up! Don't try it, please! The engine should have a serial number on it and an old engine guru can tell you some of it's history from that; I know that Norm Carol told me quite a bit about mine years ago. Look at the mounting lugs - is there any evidence of being screwed down to run? Note if the plug is clean but take care removing and replacing it. Did it come with coil and condensor?
Probably worth over $150 I'd say. Nice gift. Cheers.

Re: Old time engine

Thanks for showing us that fine engine, Second Time Around.

When people look at me like I'm weird for extoling the current ignition engines as opposed to glow, I remind them that long before glow we had ignition engines, with points, condensers, ignition batteries and adjustable ignition timing.

I tell them that glow was then the new, big thing since it eliminated all that to reduce complexity, unreliability and save weight, along with providing more power. The response is usuall something like, "Huh?". They don't believe it. And they've never seen any of these old ignition engines. Yours looks great.

Now, we've come full circle - gasoline eninges with ignition batteries and "black box" ignition systems. At least the reliability doesn't appear to be a big issue.

Thumbs up Re: Old time engine

Can you believe this was in a box full of old engine that got traded.
The most generous fellow that I am getting it from had no interest. so the price was right ---even in US dollars.
Oh he did not believe this engine had ever been run

the serial # should be stamped on the back of the engine at about crank center level or on the boss between the crank center and the cylinder base
the # will tel you what year or years of production
will try to find the list on my computer , I lost a lot of info in a hard drive crash a while back
minr were built between 1936 and 1946 ( if I remember right ) my serial # are 8838 14461 and 432675
