Done, with minutes to spare. Kevin should be here anytime now. I didn't like the arrangement for securing the wings to the tube, so borrowed a tip from Seagull models, and used some cool nylon bolts instead, two on each side, which tighten the wing to the fuse. That's it folks, my last R/C build, probably for some time! I'll pop in to see the goings on once in a while, but in 3 weeks, new life, new home, lots of travel. Thanks to all who've followed my build threads, I've learned a ton, and hopefully the odd person has picked up some ideas and encouragement from my threads. It's been a pleasure.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

PS, just did a quick check of the CG, and she's pretty much bang on, with cowl, prop and spinner, I'm guessing just at the forward end of the CG range, so liPo batteries can go in the belly, just as I'd hoped. Not one ounce of lead weight required. I'm pretty damn happy, good design, obviously, by Jerry Bates.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Kevin is just heading out with his F4F, left him a few little bits to finish, and I certainly hope she'll be ready to fly at the Truro warbird rally! It's been a blast, building steady since I got back from Afghanistan, in 2017. Think I've done about 20 years worth of builds, so time for a rest. I'll keep in touch, and look forward to other's builds.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Oh, and forgot to mention, it being a radial, with perfectly round firewall, and the entire power system attached to the firewall, Kevin the owner has the option of rotating the engine 90 degrees, so the fuel tank is vertical, vice sideways, thus never an issue of fuel starvation. All that would be required, is to cut the exhaust pipes by 1/2 an inch or so, and then tube the exhaust out in scale location. I'm really surprised no one looked at the photos, and said, "hey, wait a minute.. . . ." To be honest, I actually just thought of that yesterday, and checked it out, would solve all the issues.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Thanks again Dave! She looks great (and BIG!). The few odds & ends to finish off will be getting priority over most of my other RC projects (including the Defiant). I definitely want to have her at Warbirds this summer, alongside her smaller siblings.

Poor Lt. (N) Malcolm "Shrimpy" McGee lost his head (temporarily) when I tried to remove him from the cockpit! Didn't see the fishing line "seat belt" he used to secure himself in place. Seems he'd heard he was to be seconded to 264 Sqn. RAF... flying Defiants!

Included some snaps of the 'cat in her new home, with my trusty ParkZone Wildcat for comparison.

Yep! And in record time too. I think they showed up the day after you mailed them. Thanks!

Hope your "house hunting" adventure went well.
