TH ZF fund seems to be a somewhat heated topic. Perhaps we can start a thread to see how ZD funds are spent in your zone and ideas for what you think would be a good way to spend it?

I would like this to remain a positive thread with current uses, not dredging up how it was used in the past or for attacking any ideas proposed.

In Manitoba - NW Ontario Zone some of the ZDD funds have been used a seed money for the highly succesful Gimi Model Fest www.gimlimodelfest.com, not totally sure where it specifically goes but it helps pays for the advertising, biffies, fencing, etc. I think they average about a 100 registered pilots each year and this year celebrating it's 10th anniversary.

Budget, No. Financials, yes.
You will have seen a Gimli Modelfest line in the financial statements under 'internally restricted funds. As I understand it, the zone gave the surplusses from one particularly good year to MAAC to hold on to in trust.

Looks like it wont be spent this year. Based on the 2013 AGM report, this expense has been frozen. ( I added the bold to highlight the subject matter)

Linda Presented a CRA report to the Board. MAAC was recently audited for the 2009 and 2010 fiscal years. The good news, nothing was found to be wrong. MAAC is in good shape. There were questions and concerns expressed about the Zone Directors Promotion funds going forward. This is due to the recent changes in the Corporations Canada Not for Profit Act. We are in communications with the MAAC accountants for advice and guidance about this. As a result, The Board has decided to freeze any use of the zone promotion funds until we hear from the accountants.

Using the funds to directly benefit the affiliate members (clubs) is the largest concern. Using the promo funds to promote the hobby, support events etc is still ok (for now). This means for most of us it's business as usual. Here in Zone C our promo fund budget is 1,389.00

Last year we tripled that amount offsetting it with ZD expense funds to help promote and support.
