2.4 freq vs fiberglass?
I am probably in the wrong area, but how well does the 2.4 freq handle fiberglass hulls? Does it handle it well or not? In past history I ran a 27 meg in a sailboat hull and lost contact at around 300 ft., all I did was change the channel and I had long range control, you needed binoculars on a test run to tell which was front or back sail, as I was close to a mile and a half when I turned it to come home and it came. Will not need anything that wild as I just want to relax and have a sail again and I think the old radio may be from days that are now banned.

I'm not too sure about fiberglass but Spektrum has rxs specifically for carbon airframes. They have really long antennas that can be run outside the airframe like you would do with fm. Would work just fine with fiberglass I just don't know it would be needed.

I use Hitec 2.4 systems and I have a 120 size fibreglass fuse Chipmunk with the Boda antenna fastened inside the fuse and never had an issue with it.

I have a GP Dirty Birdy with a glass fuselage. Never had a problem with my previous JR systems or the Graupner that I use now. Should not be a problem.

Fiberglass is no problem for 2.4 ghz.
Carbon fibre on the other hand is conductive and will require a receiver with antennas that can be mounted outside of the fuse. |

I fly composite pylon racers built in the mold fibreglass with carbon fibre in high stress areas and have not had a problem with 2.4 GHZ Hitec system. At the same time I have a sail boat with a 2.4 gig Spectrum system and it is affected , not by fibreglass but water. 2.4 ghz is higher frequency than 72 mhz and I am told the signal bounces off of water, resulting in poorer range. Apparently some manufacturers have a different receiver for water for this reason and not for water proofing.

Another NO -NO is aluminum colored paint. Many contain aluminum powder and will block radio signals. I painted my lawnmower engine with an aluminum spray bomb from Canadian Tire and it would not start. It shorted out the kill wire connection insulator. Aluminum paint has been used to prevent the ultra violet rays from damaging Fabric for years.

thanks for the information..... I knew about 2.4 having problems with carbon fibre but bodies of water and aluminum paint were something I didn't know about.

If u want better range get a Futaba surface radio. a buddy of mine wanted long range, he was having problems. Bought a Futaba, problem solved
