I read somewhere about using trim solvent around the edges to seal the covering. Has anyone tried this method?

I tried clear nail polish, but I'm staying away from it from now on. Eventually all the nail polish will turn dirty gray as gunk keeps sticking and melting into it. You can always use some alcohol to clean it up again, but before you know it, it's all dirty again.
