bigger doesn't take more time,as the only thing is the materials get bigger. But,size allows you to fit things into them more easily.Martin's planes have very good instructions...just follow them, and don't be afraid to call him if you run into difficulty.I believe he makes the BEST large Beaver kit around...just use him.

Re: Looking For Large Scale DHC-3 Plans (Plans Found!!!)

One thing is the solids model of a plane in CAD.It is quite another thing to produce a plan of the same that is readable to the builder, and provides useful info when you want to create parts from it.Generally, the solid can be produced in 4-8 hours... the cutting and building details can take significantly longer. You make the virtual solids, then extract the lines in plan views, and also add construction details.Things like assembly sequences, and slot sizes ,etc, become evident only with experience.

Re: Looking For Large Scale DHC-3 Plans (Plans Found!!!)

I suppose that's true. Yeah, the individual parts views to allow people to cut parts from the plans would be a lot of the work. That is definitely understandable.

Yeah, people have said that he is very helpful with questions and such. I actually should contact him about a part that is not the same shape as in the build manual and on the plans. I wonder if it's a small revision perhaps.

In this image,I am taking the fuse former shape and adding the notches,to the individual stations. This is the most tedious part of the process,as the line has to be continuous. It also has to have the inside cutout. In the end, each former will be given a station number, copied, and rotated 90 degrees to a planar laser cutout file.with that file, you can build the airplane.

It's looking very good! Still seems like a lot of work! But I suppose building an actual model is a lot of work as well.

I guess designing one and then building it may be like building it twice!

Yeah, that would be a big advantage and could surely speed up assembly!
