Hi Jon,

Yes they do, most automotive paints are lacqure based paints and they do resists nitro fuel, these days cars get painted basecote and clearcote, these clearcote are also resistant to Nitro fuel.

Laquer based paints are not fuel proof.

Enamels are somewhat resistant.

Automotive paints come in both.
Generally, (not always) fast-drying paints are laquer based.

enamel is not fuel proof, I used testers enamel to paint on one of my plane parts and the fuel made the paint gooey and slimy.

I said "somewhat" Jon.

Testors is not very good paint.

Automotive spray enamel, properly dried, is "somewhat" fuel proof.

Laquer is not.

Urethane paints are very good.

And yes Jim, they are "Gasoline" proof, but I think we are talking about nitro/methanol based fuel.

So many synthetic paints out now you don't know what's in it. I've used Canadian tire Motomaster brand lacquer and it was fuel proof bu about half the lacquers aren't. If it says on the bottom of the can ( contains petroleum products ) it's not fuel proof. Test first. I bought two different brand spray cans of polyurethane tested it on the inside of the garage door. Left it overnight. Put some fuel on it one stayed solid the other acted like thinner and ran.
