When Speed 400's just aren't enough !

Hi Guys,

Here's my latest toy . I call it the FFF . Fu##ing Fast Foamy ! It lives up to it's name !

The airframe is a Multiplex TwinJet meant for twin electric motors . Add one Lambert T32 Kolibri and you have maximum jet fun per pound ! The airframe weighs 2lb 15 oz wet and the engine is putting out close to 4 lbs at 242000 RPM . I have 400ml on board and that's good for about 6 minutes .

The engine is manually started with an air blower but a full autostart version is available . I don't see the need because it starts quite easily and runs really well .

During a rare break in the weather we got in a couple of test flights yesterday . Definitely a keeper !

Marc

Wow you married up a 5000.0$ engine with a hunk of foam - Thats so cool. You got to wonder about the noise level ? No longer a park flyer eh!

Now you've gone and done it --- I got to go and change the S.M.A.L.L. rules for my event to include Mini Turbines. Would love to see you and your model in Ottawa July 18 2009 for SMALL event.

See my signature.

$5000 ...now that would be ridiculous !!! It was only $3200 for the motor...sheesh ! Actually in the great scheme of things , it's the cheapest turbine powered aircraft I own . Only 2 small servos and a 7 ch RX , of which I only use 3 channels ! As far as giggles go . A lot less stress than the bigger , heavier , more expensive birds . I'm going to have a lot of fun putting this beautiful little engine in a variety of small ,inexpensive airframes .

As far as noise goes . As long as you're not standing right next to it , it's surprisingly quiet . BTW , I was able to maintain altitude at IDLE thrust today ! Landing is always deadstick by necessity !

Hi Marc
How fast is that little bullet, will it match the Stingray. And for the noise isn't that what Turbines are all about.
Regards Chuck

Hi Chuck,

No , not Stingray fast but it looks like it because it's so small . I was actually keeping the throttle back today because of the bad light . It does get small very fast !

I was at CA Jets in Bakersfield in 2007, and a fellow had something like this with a Kolibri on it too! Rocket J. Squirrel in the air to boot!
Enjoy Marc
