Why are many of the new members....

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
only here to try and buy and sell stuff?

What ever happened to joining a forum to become a quality member, willing to share advice, talk about events and projects, help newcomers and learn from the experienced guys?

I see some pretty aggressive, demeaning and just plain rude behaviour on here at times, and its generally newer members who have absolutely no interest in being here than to use the buy/sell forum.

Sometimes I do a search on posts when I see people stirring up trouble - and 99% of the time they have NO POSTS other than in the want ads!

The Canadian guitar forum I am also a long time member of has a policy that members much have a certain amount of posts (in general forums) before they are allowed to use the buy/sell forum. Keeps the riff raff in line, and actually encourages newbies to contribute to the good of the site, or stay away.

Yeah, I am ranting. Guess sometimes I just miss the old days...

Its not only here, But the minimum post before being allowed to post in the classifieds is a good idea.

Re: Why are many of the new members....

Yup, same thing happens.... time after time!!
I was following your For Sale thread, and it amases me how someone can flame and degrade an outstanding member as yourself, Andrew, without apparent provocation, and get away with it. New or old member, doesn't matter. A little respect goes a long way.
Winter is definatley here and people have way to much time on their hands again.
As far as having X amount of posts before being able to buy and sell, I don't think is required. Just some courteousy extended to the person selling a product, maybe with some new rules enforced by Admin.
Jason can't be everywhere all the time, and these things can balloon out of control very fast as we have seen.

Cheers

Curt

I agree. maybe a 10-20 post before you can post in the fore sale forums.. If you just want to sell stuff, then use Craigs list..

Re: Why are many of the new members....

I just read the for sale thead.. unbelieveable!!!
Albeit it is good to have concerns about what you are purchasing, you couldn't ask for better terms and especially at such a price WOW!!!

As for having a certain number of posts, before you can trade, I'm not in complete agreement. There are many many long time members on this forum, that do not post alot but when they do it is of great value to the forums!

Re: Why are many of the new members....

Hey guys,

I've considered the feature to have people get to a certain level of posts before they can sell here, but I feel that's kind of punishing potential members who would become long time contributors for the few.

This happened to me at a forum. I found the forum because I was selling something. I joined expecting to use the classifieds and become a contributing member of the forum but got irritated with this security feature and never returned.

If anyone sees posts getting out of hand send me a note and I will deal with them. I've banned several members in the past who would not play by the rules.

RCCanada is growing all the time. I want this site to be a great place and a place where people want to return daily. We can't maintain that image with members who feel they can attack others at will...those types need to go.

Jason

Re: Why are many of the new members....

I've been involved with one forum in particular that requires a minimum amount of post before you can attach a picture, link, etc. Keeps the one post spammers out. The minimum post count was 30 before your account was unlocked.
